Years ago, I had a friend ask me why I told a person "Happy Holidays" when I'm a Christian, I told them that it was the holiday season and it was the first greeting that came to me. Last year, I said "Merry Christmas" to a Salvation Army bell ringer and someone actually said to me "You should say Happy Holidays". People who look for reasons to be offended need to be ignored. Any friendly greeting that isn't met by another friendly greeting (regardless of what you believe in) is more of a personal problem than an assault on a particular holiday.

As a Christian I'm not offended by those who wish me "Happy Holidays" or some variation of that.
Whatever you believe Christ to be, the stories of him that have been passed down depict him as someone who reached out to people of diverse backgrounds.
So, in that spirit, to everyone on this forum I wish "Happy Holidays."

What, now? Jesus is portrayed as preaching to the Jews about Jewish matters.

Yeah, that's bunk. Read the Bible-- Christ was a rabbi preaching to the Jews. He wasn't fired up to convert the gentiles. (If I'm wrong, please cite Scripture.)

Yeah, but once homicidal fanatic and untreated schizophrenic Saul of Tarsus had his famous vivid disassociative episode while traveling to commit mass murder in Syria, it changed everything.

I suspect the more established Apostles realized a mission among Gentiles would get the crazy bastard out of their city and presence but good.

While a meet and fit subject for discussion, might I propose that we NOT tangent this topic into a discussion of Jesus' reality, preaching, and discussion of the Bible? I'm not entirely certain that such are wholly relevant to Happy Holidays vs Merry Christmas vs Happy Hannukah.

Is anyone legitimately offended by either "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays"? I think even the "War on Christmas" people are just feigning outrage over it. Say whatever you want, and as long as you're being friendly and sincere, people should take your message in the spirit in which it's intended.

Sometimes I say "Happy Christmas and Merry Hanukah" and I think people just know I'm being silly.

I did an illustration lesson for my K-4 art classes this year based on "Seasonal" songs. One student said they weren't allowed to sing holiday music. I explained that "Winter Wonderland" isn't a holiday song, and says nothing about the Holidays. It just gets played a lot this time of year.

I also played my guitar and sang a few songs to/with the kids. I sang my favorite Hanukah song, BNL's "Hanukah Blessing", which has a verse in Hebrew. Unfortunately I had a student this year who is Jewish and knew how badly I was at pronouncing the words!!  No one was offended....

(Sorry to take things so off topic)

It's about the birth of Jesus, no getting around that.

I don't see how anyone can get offended so easy. You can
say "happy Satan day" and I wouldn't give a crap.

I spent many years in retail and have wished thousands upon thousands of people "Happy Holidays!" I think I may have had 3 or 4 people "correct" me with Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah. This war nonsense is just a few obnoxious people being pissy for no reason and most people know it.

I say Happy Holidays during the holiday season and Merry
Christmas during Christmas, which doesn't begin until
December 25.

I do not understand why Christians and Catholics, like
myself, are offended by Happy Holidays or want to say
Merry Christmas before Christmas.
