Of the eight teams playing, four of them backed their way into the playoffs, and three of them faced elimination unless they won.

Saturday

Afternoon: Titans at Chiefs - Only because of Arrowhead.

Evening: Falcons at Rams - We (the Vikings) play the winner of this game.  We easily beat them both during the regular season.  This isn't a vote for who I'd like to play next week, but rather who I think is the more talented of the two teams.  The Falcons barely won playing their starters vs the Panthers and the Rams lost resting, well, everyone vs the Niners**.  Easy pick.

Sunday:

Early game: Bills at Jaguars - I'm bucking conventional wisdom on this and admit that it may bite me in the ass.

Late game: Panthers at Saints - Home team pick.  Otherwise?  Tossup.

** I actually think that the Rams, having locked the division, were hoping they wouldn't draw the Vikes by falling to the 4th seed, but the Saints and Panthers both lost keeping them at #3.

Chiefs.  At home, riding longest current streak outside SF (ha, ha) vs. the Titans who are 3-5 on the road and don't look like they really belong.  I just can't believe in a Titans team who lost to the 4-12 Texans 57-14 and barely beat the Browns in OT.

Rams.  Everything's lined up.  They're young and improving, they'll have a ton of salary cap room in the offseason, and I think they break thru in the playoffs a year after going 4-12.

Jaguars.  They stumbled late but still gave up the 2nd fewest points all year and scored the 5th most.  On the other side, McCoy may be gimpy and the Bills have no margin for error.

Saints.  I wanted to be different and go Panthers but NO dominated them twice and just looks better, particularly at home.  It's tough to beat a team 3x in one year but it happens here.

Chiefs!  Thus ending the coaching tenure  or Mike Malarky,. If Mariota was a more comple QB and not injured, this would be different.

Falcons and the points! People forget Falcons have a top 10 defense, and don't need to put up 30 points to win. If the Falcons can shut down Gurley they will win. Falcons picked Beasley over Gurley trusting in Freeman to be the feature back. I don't trust the Falcons O-Line. This one is real toss up to me.

Jaguars. Too much for the poor Bills to handle. Defense wins playoffs.

Panthers! Bi-Polar Cam Newton will come out hot. It is hard to beat the same team 3 times in a row. Also as a falcons fan I must root against the saints at every turn even if it is unrealistic to do so.

"and three of them faced elimination unless they won."
I think that's just want the NFL had in mind when they bunched all the division games together.

Saturday

Afternoon: Titans at Chiefs- These 2 are practically identical but I like Smith over Mariota and Demarco Murray is hurting.

Evening: Falcons at Rams- Rams are on a frickin' mission.

Sunday:

Early game: Bills at Jaguars- There may be a Bills upset brewing here.

Late game: Panthers at Saints- Should be a blowout.

I really don't see an upset happening this weekend.  The only one that might be close to one is the Panthers/Saint game.

I literally was just going to change my pick. Seriously.  All y'all have picked the home team favorites and we know that there will be at least one upset.   There's always an upset and no way do all four home teams win.  But...I was going to change it up anyway.

Not now.  Sticking to my pick even though I think the Bills will bust it without Shady.

What was that about no upsets this week?

Chiefs game was a lot like their season: strong out the gate, then foundered.

Falcons remain maddening to watch.  They can beat anyone and they can lose to anyone.

Agreed on both counts.  I think Reid is too conservative to win a championship and the Rams showed just how young a team they are by faltering in their first playoff appearance.

Now I have to wait until the last game tomorrow to see who we'll play: the Saints or the Panthers.  Hmmmmm....

I'd hope for the panthers if I were you. They can't put 2 solid games together.

It's taken the falcons all season to find thier identity as a run first, top 10 defenses that only has to score 20 to win, not 30 or 35. The super bowl handover is still very real. The Defense is finally playing all 4 quarters. To move from great to elite the D needs more takeaways.

I also agree with Kevin's statement. If they can execute their game-plan they can get right back to the Superbowl. I liked the resolve in post-game, this is just the first step.

The Rams were just happy to be there and it showed and with the rest of the NFC west in turmoil the Rams will be arond for a long time.  LA rams SF 49ers what a great rivalry! Looks like it will be back on again.

The 2017 Rams looked a lot like the 2016 Rams in their first playoff game...   That Atlanta team that showed up hasn't been around all season.

As for the Titans and Chiefs, I feel for KC.  It was like watching John Fox coaching the Chiefs in the second half.

Great comeback by the Titans, but also a rather epic collapse by a suddenly tight, conservative KC.  Almost reminiscent of Atlanta's huge lead on NE last year and points up how strangely dangerous it can be to get out to too big an early lead because of the almost irresistible subtle temptation to change the way you play and the way the plays are called.

Man, if the Jags had an elite QB, they'd be odds on favorite to win the Super Bowl this year.

And Carolina lost that game more than is was the Saints winning it.  So many dropped passes that absolutely KILLED them.

Next weekend's thread is ready.
