Stinkers:
WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES – Liked the "Western with apes" first half, hated the "Apocalypse Now with apes" second half.
IT COMES AT NIGHT – Psychological drama that serves as an allegory for xenophobia and isolationism that was inexplicably marketed as a monster horror movie. Even going in thinking their was some bait and switch going on, based on the reviews, it was still mostly a tense, but slow character study with some confusing imagery.
Disappointments:
ATOMIC BLONDE LOGAN LUCKY
I liked both these movies overall, but I was expecting them to be a bit better. I might try repeat viewings of LOGAN LUCKY to see if I enjoy it more.

Everything I saw this year, in order of preference:
Wonder Woman Spider-Man: Homecoming The Lego Batman Movie Kong: Skull Island Atomic Blonde
It was kind of a toss-up for the bottom of the list, but I can remember what I saw of Kong and Atomic Blonde clearly left less of an impression.

Favorites: KONG: SKULL ISLAND - big monster dumb fun IT - well mad and fairly scary THOR: RAGNAROK - maybe a little too much comedy (and Jeff G), but some amazingly fun action scenes.
Enjoyed: WONDER WOMAN GET OUT SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING BABY DRIVER GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, VOL 2
Absolutely Hated: WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES - Excruciatingly boring. Hated the comedy relief chimp STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI - Not just a bad Star Wars movie, it's a bad movie in general. Hated it from the prank phone call at the beginning, through the useless Casino Planet / find-the-codebreaker scenes, the slow "OJ-in-space chase" that lasted far too long, and every scene until the credits started rolling. Awful. I've been banned (or given a reprieve) from seeing more Star Wars movies.

WONDER WOMAN - a huge disappointment KONG: SKULL ISLAND - an absurd premise superbly mounted DESPICABLE ME 3 - quite a plunge from 2 CARS 3 - a huge recovery from 2, but overall unnecessary VALARIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS - like being trapped in a video game. At least I didn't see it in 3D! ATOMIC BLONDE - barely lasted 20 minutes ALIEN: COVENANT - Ridley Scott continues to break the toys he helped create GHOST IN THE MACHINE - whitewashed and unwatchable

Liked:Wonder Woman - favourite film this year Thor - really enjoyed this Kong:Skull island (liked it even though I saw it in French at the cinema, and I can’t understand French)
Was ok: Spider-Man:Homecoming - so many changes to characters Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - better than Spider-Man but not as good as the top three
Did not like Justice League - bad, bad CGI The Lego Batman movie - what comedy there was was based on utter contempt for Batman as a character
Special place in hell: Star Wars: The last jedi - for what it did to Luke
Been a While since I have seen so many films in the cinema

LOVED Murder on the Orient Express The Man Who Invented Christmas Darkest Hour
ENJOYED All the Money in the World LBJ Wonder Woman Coco Kedi* It Lady Bird The Big Sick* Spider-Man: Homecoming The Lost City of Z* - good movie, but the book was so much better. A Dog's Purpose Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - the more I think about this movie, the less I like it.
DID NOT CARE FOR Dunkirk - did not know anything about Dunkirk before the movie, so the sparse dialog hurt the viewing experience for me. The Lego Batman Movie Thor: Ragnarok - too much humor Bitter Harvest - utter crap

Didn't see a whole lot a new movies in 2017.
WONDER WOMAN is my favourite. Surprisingly entertaining and with a good heart, coming from bleak DC.
LOGAN was the best X-men film so far (not that the bar was set high...)
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 was a bit of a let-down, but none so more than THE LAST JEDI. Utter garbage.
JUSTICE LEAGUE was predictably awful, but somehow I expected it to be even worse.

Stinker: THE LAST JEDI. Never have I come out of a cinema having watched a Star Wars movie feeling disappointed like I did with this (and, yes, I was a young and naïve when he prequels came out).

(Nothing is any particular order. Just the order I thought them up in.)
Favorites:
FATE OF THE FURIOUS JOHN WICK CHAPTER TWO TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT
Enjoyed:
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 2 LOGAN WONDER WOMAN GET OUT KONG: SKULL ISLAND A DOG'S PURPOSE MONSTER TRUCKS GOING IN STYLE XXX: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD
Was okay, but may or may not watch again:
VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND WORLDS WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES MONSTER TRUCKS JEEPERS CREEPERS 3 (Released in theaters for one day; I watched it on SyFy)
Didn't care for:
ATOMIC BLONDE POWER RANGERS
Was dragged to by Heidi:
FIFTY SHADES DARKER
Haven't got around to watching yet, but plan to:
BABY DRIVER DUNKIRK JUSTICE LEAGUE SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING THOR: RAGNAROK ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD DESPICABLE ME 3 STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (Am in no hurry to see!!!!) DARKEST HOUR CARS 3 KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE BLADE RUNNER 2049 LOGAN LUCKY
(I can't wait for the third John Wick film!)
Note to Shaun Barry: LA LA LAND was biggest disappointment of 2016. Heidi's son is in a high school class that watches films, and they had to watch it and hated it. It would have been much more enjoyable if: a. They had cast someone who could actually sing instead of Ryan Gosling and b. They didn't keep playing the song `City of Stars', which is complete garbage, throughout the movie. (I told Heidi's son to warn the other kids about the song.)

I saw a ton in the theatre this year, which speaks to films that resonated with me at least insofar as the marketing was concerned. But I'll give just three:
Most Impressed - WONDER WOMAN - Loved it. First frame to last, I thought it was a fantastic superhero film
Least Impressed - JLA - This was a train wreck from beginning to end. Awful. A few scenes were OK, but that doesn't make up for a total lack of vision, an awful premise, and a lackluster story.
Down the Line - LOGAN LUCKY - Enjoyed it for what it was, but wanted it to be more.
FYI I'm not getting the hate for GOTG 2. A "lousy" film? Seriously? It wasn't what the original was, but to say it's lousy rings all sorts of wrong to me. YMMV.

I'm just going to go with the movies that got me out to the theater in 2017:
MY FRIEND DAHMER- Greatly anticipated after reading the EXCELLENT graphic novel in 2016 (highly recommended). I thought it was very good but not as engrossing as the book. Buy the book!
STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI- Huge disappointment, derailed the franchise after I had hopes of the ship being put back on course with THE FORCE AWAKENS. Watched STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE to get the bad taste out of my mouth.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Vol. 2- Good, fun...took my 12 year old nephew who enjoyed it. I didn't like it as much as the first and I find very little of it really has stuck with me now months after seeing it.
KONG: SKULL ISLAND- I enjoyed it. Works as a modern version of KING KONG ESCAPES or something like that. You have to think of it as something very separate from the one true King Kong story.
I think those are the only 4 that got me to buy a ticket this year...
