Wait a minute. Are we talkin' Classic Coke here? If so, you are way outta line, bub!

That's two things we agree on, Wallace.
The length of the JBNM run is also what it makes it standout for me along with a return to form after its hiatus. I had had a period out from comics and Scattered drew me back in (and indeed on to this forum). I have no idea how I heard it was back but I was glad it was.
Still pissed that Thomas Kirkland got killed though. Definitely my favourite character.

Sometimes its surprising to learn the breadth of somebody's tastes, such as people whose comic book diet consists of 999 superhero books and one comic by Gerald Jablonski, but as distinct NEXT MEN and WATCHMEN were in style and execution, we're still talking about two of DC Comics' best-selling writers of the Eighties, with a vast shared audience.

I'm such a JBNM fan that if I'm ever able to buy a commission, it will be tough deciding between the characters from that series and the Fantastic Four. THE FANTASTIC FOUR!

Hmm, that’s a tough one Wallace. Got to admit I think I would go for Cyclops, purely because I thought JB drew the best visor ever.
Really enjoying the trip down memory lane as I make my way through the issues. There have been some really subtle aspects to the world built and the gradual. Reveal as we move through Hilltop’s life, and the expansion of characters as the series progresses is just perfect.
Loving this series

I tend to think this is our host’s magnum opus. A brilliantly-constructed science-fiction story which rewards multiple readings. I’ve been itching to re-read it, myself.

(Is it blasphemy for me to consider JBNM a better story than WATCHMEN? If so, brand me a heretic!)

Only if you define "blasphemy" as "100% correct."

Watchmen is gorgeous and well-structured, but JBNM crackles with life. It's organic and complex. You get to live with everyone over a long period of time. It's a great book.

I admit to being full of contradictions. I'm enjoying DOOMSDAY CLOCK so far. But every time I hear the word "WATCHMEN" I automatically think can we stop fucking talking about that story already? It's not even Moore's best work.

I couldn't decide which one I like better, but I think Watchmen was much more influential. And I also think that isn't necessarily a good thing, since what works for Watchmen not always works for traditional superhero comics. As for Next Men, I read it in a different order than intended and it works so well that I might prefer it. Maybe it is because it was my first experiencie, or because I still haven't read it in the "correct" order, but I enjoyed a lot reading issue 0 first, then 1 up to the end (or what was the end for several years) and then 2112.

I agree...so far.
And to have characters written by one creator from the cradle to the grave ,so to speak, is a plus, plus. They are who they were meant to be.
