If the multiversal moguls and wannabe Crisis management personnel at DC can only jam their heads just a teensy-tiny bit further up their own asses, they'll be able to gaze endlessly into their navels from the other side...
But listen to the Rebirth fans and they'll tell you this double-universal-regurgitated/ reJurgenstated ten-year leap forwards and backwards into the 22-year old Mx'ed-up version, only the kid stays and somehow nobuddy-'members-nuthin' is bestest, most greatest niftiness evereverever... "Really, it makes everything so SIMPLE!!"
I recently slogged my way through the execrably written "Multiplicity" by Peter Tomasi and was sick to my stomach that this sludge is what the medium has degenerated into.

I'm one of the Rebirth fans and I read every month. The "double-universal-regurgitated/ reJurgenstated ten-year leap forwards and backwards into the 22-year old Mx'ed-up version" isn't really mentioned. There is no reflection back to the New 52 version or the pre-New 52 version. As far as the reader knows, all is as it was.

I might be wrong about this but...
During the New52 era, Superman was the subject of a lawsuit between the Siegel and Shuster families against DC Comics. Part of the lawsuit was based on what the creators had in fact created--and that included Superman wearing red trunks.
When the costume was redesigned, I think that some elements were deliberately omitted to make DC's Superman less like what Siegel and Shuster had originally created. I could be wrong, but it would be one way of differentiating "the new guy" from the target of that lawsuit--which has since been settled, I believe, clearing the way for the return of the red trunks.

And for my money, the look is iconic. Batman still doesn't look *right* to me without his blue-black trunks.

Here is a post I never thought I'd make. For those
confused and think the idea of adding a child to the life
of SUPERMAN is a foolish one, you may be right.
That said, the way the writers have handled it has been
fantastic. The father & son dynamic really works. For
those saying Superman is too old fashioned and your Dad's
superhero, well, now he's just Dad. No one was more
skeptical about the idea than me. I'm also usually
against storylines that move the age of the character.
But, they've pulled it off. As long as they continue to
make the kid likable and Clark continues to be a good
Dad. I think this could have legs.

Jon Kent is a good kid. He's smart. He's also wholesome. He's very, very different than Damian Wayne. Which is what makes SUPER-SONS such a fun read.
And I think he's going to stay ten years old for a very long time. I think DC has learned their lesson on this one.
And there's no need for another CRISIS. Aside from things like Jon Kent, things are gradually moving towards what they were back before the 2011 reboot (minus the really awful stuff like Roy Harper losing an arm and going nuts).
And I agree, Batman needs the black trunks back ASAP.

Also, as I've said before, Superman's personality is very much that of "the John Byrne Superman." That's what matters most, everything else is surface details.

I swear, if I hear one more person, at my
LCS gripe that trunks are too old
fashioned because they were born out of
the strongmen of the 30's, I'm gonna punch
them in the mouth

I've noticed that it's mainly "Millennial" readers who are making this complaint. Trunks are "old," "corny," whatever.
Sorry, but Superman and especially Batman look just a bit too "naked" without the trunks.
(Nobody make a BATMAN: DAMNED reference, please...)
