After reading "Last Days of the Justice Society of America," I was hoping something like you suggested would happen, Eric. I figured that whatever would cause them to eventually escape that eternal loop would somehow reinvigorate the team. As we now know, things were handled differently. Shame, because Roy Thomas handed a future writer a way to keep the original JSA vital.

I'm a tad rusty on my comics history, but when was the HUAC hearings written into the story in the real world publications? That was first written about in "America vs. The Justice Society," wasn't it?

"Last Days of The Justice Society" seemed to rewrite some comics history, though. But I haven't read the comic since 1986, so again... I am rusty on my recollection.

The story about the JSA investigated by congress was 'The Man Who Defeated the Justice Society', published in 1979(in the final issue of their run in ADVENTURE COMICS, which dropped its 'Dollar Comic' format thereafter). That story was told in flashback, as Huntress recounted the details to Power Girl.
The plot point that Roy Thomas introduced in AMERICA VS THE JUSTICE SOCIETY was the existence of Bruce Wayne's diary.

LAST DAYS showed an apocalyptic event in 1945, which required the JSA to participate in Ragnarok in order to undo it.

Ah, now I remember that plot! Thanks, Brian. One day I need to re-read these comics to refresh my memories on what happened and when.

Yes, there was an effort to minimize the age difference between the two. But she still comes off as being older.

Liz is making a fat jab, and Betty is more upset about sounding old. That's not a complaint of someone who's only supposed to be a year older than Peter.

*****************************

Interesting. This is what I was remembering, from ASM #9:

Now that suggests to me someone who is not much older than Peter.

Perhaps Stan couldn't make his mind up!

Marvel's World War II heroes aren't really problematic. Captain America, Namor, and the original Human Torch all have reasonable excuses for not having aged.

At this point I do kinda wonder when exactly Namor lost his memory and for how long. I can't imagine him wandering around for decades not remembering who he is.

It's been eons since I read the Ditko-era AMAZING SPIDER-MAN issues but I think I always assumed Betty was 18 when she started working at the Bugle.
