30 years... damn, I'm getting old! Superman turning 50 was a big thing. Now he's 80...

Edited to add: I love that image, btw!

I remember searching everywhere for it, Petter. TIME didn't seem to be widely available here in the UK (I rarely see it nowadays). So I missed out.

How things change, eh? Nowadays, I'd be able to (probably) order a single copy via the web or download a digital copy.

Ugh. Horrible lettering, and they describe Superman's powers as "supernatural".

But an amazing piece of artwork!

JB, they should've let you write the thought balloons, too. Or letter them, at least.

A "model" of Superman as he's to be drawn in DC comics from now on looks very much like the JB version:

The art should have been bigger and the thought balloons omitted. Will we get a "He's 100" magazine cover? Will magazines still be around in another twenty years?

*****

It really does! (I see a hint of Ed McGuinness, too--maybe it's the eyebrows.) And if that's the "baseline" Superman again, I'm a happy camper.

A splendid drawing of Superman's change. Perfect model which image was used far too little. Much too god for the common populace... :)

Yes, thought balloons and dialogue aside, I like it.

He's very much both SUPER and MAN. His physique doesn't look excessive/exaggerated, but neither does it look "ordinary", either.

EDIT: It's a good job there's some small imagery pertaining to the words "Losing The Drug War". Without that small image, we may have had an unfortunate juxtaposition. Superman would not lose any drugs war!

I've probably got this someplace.  I remember purchasing it "gasp" 30 years ago.  If I can find it, I'll post the article if that's okay with the forum.
