Simple question, but not so much ALL the superheroes, but wondering why no new characters have been created, in recent times.

It seems to be currently affecting all aspects of every industry.
No new music acts...bands.....no new music craze.
No super-models.....
No new Mega-actors......
no new franchises..

Anyone else notice this?

I'd probably disagree slightly about music. If you mean new music acts/bands that go big, you're right; but if you're talking about music generally, there are, and I am a metal fan, lots of metal bands popping up all over the globe, including in places you would not expect (Andorra).

With new superheroes, I wonder if it's hard to come up with new characters. We've had animal-themed characters, cosmic characters, monster characters, vigilantes, etc. We've seen gamma radiation, cosmic radiation, mutations, etc. Is it easy to come up with a fresh angle?

Maybe it's too much cross-over between characters.
Where could you have your character grow without being part of a larger team adventure?

Can't make a new city.
Can't have the whole world be in jeopardy without greater intervention.
But, to make them official they'd have to be mixed with the other, established characters. And that's basically side-kick status.
Hmmm

Why no new characters? Greed.

Back when I was getting into the business, writers were grumbling about holding back on creating new stuff, since "I don't want to give Marvel the next Spider-Man."

This has only gotten worse since real money became a factor.

I'd almost like to see an older character get their powers.
An adult who grew up normal, to adulthood.....

and then got their powers.

That's why I can't hang around here.
Your stark truths are depressing.
I'm sad now.

I disagree with all of this except for supermodels. And the reason there are so few supermodels (there are still new ones) is because supermodels have been largely supplanted by actresses, musicians, and reality TV personalities in terms of promoting stuff.

Couple of questions, Drew, the first of which is a bit rhetorical.

First, what's so good about franchises? Second, when you say there are no new franchises, to which area/field do you refer?

All the above.
In ...like 1982 -84, somewhere around there, all the current franchises (classic/cult movies with several parts) were born. Aside from Hunger Games, and Harry Potter, it's pretty slim.

Also, only DC and Marvel seem to be able to make Superhero movies, so it seems impossible to make one without a strong comic fandom as a base, which also creates a limitation...to well, only the most known characters.

There's no new movie stars. Ryan Gosling was like, the last "Oh my gawd, he's in this movie" other than that, where are the modern movie stars. As ....drawing a blank...as Chris Evans said, modern movies aren't making actors. They are making comic heroes...You don't go to see Chris Pine, you go to see Kirk. You don't go to see Chris Pine, or such...you go to see Spiderman or Thor/Hunk etc....

With Star Wars being a huge mess and the last Star Trek being underwhelming, how come no other NEW franchise arrived to deliver what they seem too .... distracted to..?

No new boy bands...no new Britney Spears...it's the same acts that ave been around for a decade still closing at all the major events.
Lady GaGa...Justin Timberlake...really?

Even shows centered on Making STARS...Ruben Studdard...and such, even there, where is this next generation's.......

Well, that's what I mean....
Is there even a hot book, blazing the best seeler's list?

What was the last thing the whole world seemed excited about, at once?

Why would we want a new boy band? I`m guessing none of
us on this site are 9 year old girls!

Music is quite a broad brush to stroke with.

If we're talking mainstream acts, the kind that close major events, then you are right; if we're talking about a genre such as heavy metal, more bands than ever are appearing. It truly is a global phenomena.

No new music acts? I think the answer depends on whether you are speaking generally or specifically. New metal acts are popping up constantly, in the unlikeliest of places (like I said, who'd expect Andorra to produce a metal band?).

9 year old girls are into Korean boy bands like BTS. Seriously.

There are so many options today that entertainment is fragmented. There are fewer things that are universal. But this is a different statement from saying there’s nothing NEW.
