Sam Bee is great.
The gun nuts already have a religion, though.
Luke 22:36 = He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.
No joke. They widely are using this verse to support gun rights.

Brilliant stuff. I love Leah Remini's Scientology expose and thankfully it seems that cult is dying - not enough new blood to keep it going. When your spokesman is Tom Cruise, you're on borrowed time.
The religion of guns is a sickness and like Scientology, plays on the weak's insecurities. We're all targets so some idiot can feel like a bigger man walking around with a killing machine. Yay, America!

They have their own "network" now. Frightening.

I mentioned the other day that I'd watched the 1934 CLEOPATRA, and was surprised to see that the first image on screen was a card touting the NRA.

And to bridge the gap between the words "sword" and "gun" will they be citing and quoting Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet? I suppose it should not surprise me when words and meaning are stretched, manipulated and creatively interpreted by deeply religious people. But it does.

The card at the beginning of Cleopatra confused me too, but it's for FDR's NRA - the National Recovery Administration started in 1933 was dissolved in 1935 after being ruled as unconstitutional.
The NRA we all know and 'love' started getting political in 1934.

Jeez, I didn't know the NRA went that far back.
Incidentally, the NRA gets a lot of flak - rightly so! - but the media does not seem to criticize Gun Owners of America (GOA) as much.

As a gun owner, I'm not very happy with the leadership currently running the NRA. Growing up, the NRA's main focus used to be educating actual and potential gun owners on the proper handling and care of a firearm and the responsibility of owning it. In Junior High, i actually had a hunter/gun safety class in school. The materials used for the class were provided by the organization.
The current leadership in the organization seem to enjoy playing political chess on capitol hill and the lifestyle you get to live as a lobbyist in DC.

Right you are, Stephen! In my 20s I considered joining the NRA. They were still the "good guys" then.
