Why is this movie being called "The Eternals" when they are changing so much from the source material? I'll pass.

WandaVision could bring Wonderman into the MCU. TV loves
a good love-triangle.

I haven't seen anything to this point. What essential portions of the source material have been confirmed to be changed?

Makkari is being swapped from a white man with red hair into a black woman who is deaf, so that's a start...

Sprite and Ajak are gender swapped with Hayek playing Ajak apparently. So Sersi wasn't the obvious role for her?

In addition to what Shawn and Bill said, the Eternals are aliens instead of genetically altered humans. Ajax is the leader. A couple of the male characters that were not gender swapped were instead race swapped. The Eternals are working for the Celestials.

It may well change by the time the film appears and the marketing campaign has cooked things up, but the Eternals didn't interest me even back when I live and breathed Marvel comics.

Marvel is currently the biggest brand in movies, though (and possibly ever), so you'd have to be crazy to say they can't pull this off, but I'd be at least a little sceptical about its broad appeal.

I was one of those who was convinced that GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY was going to be their first big box office bomb.

As long as they continue to have Kevin Feige at the helm, I'm not betting against them again!

After the success of twenty-third level characters like the Guardians and Ant-Man, I think we can assume itís the Marvel brand thatís bringing people into theaters, not any presumed fidelity to the characters and/or concepts.

And, as weíve seen, that fidelity got shipped to the dog food factory a long time ago. After the relatively faithful IRON MAN there has been a steady march away from the core of these characters. A march that seems now to have become a stampede.

And, yeah, Salma Hayek is NOT Sersi?? Itís pathological I tells ya!

I'm hoping that we're being misled and Hayek is actually playing Sersi and someone else is playing Ajax.

Marvel Studios people have been known to flat-out lie on occasion.

I have the feeling that Sprite is going to end up very dead very quickly in the movie -- I'm tempted to say that the gender of the character almost doesn't matter if they get "knocked off" in the first act.

Are you sure you're not thinking about J.J. Abrams? His crew on his "Star Trek" films have definitely lied before about what's in their films (or not). I don't recall the same at Marvel Studios. I certainly don't recall any lies about casting in the past. What would be the point of lying about who they cast in what role?

Abrams and his crew are weasels. Their lies weren't even credible, never mind convincing. It's one thing to lie. It's another to do it that poorly. C'mon, guys. You're supposed to be storytellers.
