Michael S. & Eric J. - you kinda skipped over the point by assigning two choices to the same artist. Not that I disagree that Mr. Byrne excels with so doggoned many characters...

Too often when I considered a favourite artist and associated characters I would then think of other artists, who were at least as formative with the character. So, it puts me more in the originating artist frame of mind with a few exceptions.

Dave Sim - Cerebus The Ardvark, John Byrne - Weapon Alpha (original name),Mike Ploog - Werewolf by Night
Paul Gulacy - Shang-Chi Master of Kung-Fu, Steve Rude - Nexus, Walter Simonson - Manhunter (the resurrected Paul Kirk)

If I start thinking of these characters, I also think of these artists and if I start think of these artists I also think of these characters.
