I should probably mention, for the benefit of those of you who are starting to see this a me laying down a yellow brick road back to Marvel, that even if that happened, you'd not be likely to see these pages there.

STORY: When I set my eyes on THE DEMON, at DC, I did a whole "pilot" issue, on spec. 22 pencil pages. I showed these to the powers that were, and the reaction was, to say the least, enthusiastic. We were all set to go. Then one of the higher higher ups stepped in to say we could not use that issue, as I had drawn it when not under contract. I offered to sign any kind of releases necessary, but no go. So I ended up breaking up the issue and using the pages where applicable in other stories.

Same thing is likely to be the case with Marvel.

I also agree that Dan Green would be ideal. He also has an almost 7 year stint as X-men inker.

Not referring specifically to Dan, but that kind of thing can bring along a unconscious "Need to Fix This" attitude.

The page with the dialogue added is fantastic!  Thank you so much for sharing this with us, JB - it’s a blast!

I don't know how well it would mesh, but they seem to use Jay Leisten as the inker on X-Men comics in recent years.

JB, back in the days at Marvel how did inkers get placed with artists/teams? Was it all EIC, editor or artist request?

I wonder what Trevor Scott would make these look like? I really loved his inks on your Atom work. It just unexpectedly worked well. He had his own line and style, but everything still followed your lines pretty faithfully.

Yes, I didn't have much fun on THE ATOM, for a number of reasons, but I did like the inks quite a bit.

Call me silly but the thing I enjoy most of these pages is the story that I can see in my head. Your ability to tell a story without dialogue is often underrated.  I've recently spent time going back to the pencils in the gallery to enjoy that aspect of your skill.  That's probably why I can't wait for IDW's Artifact Edition to drop.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no pencil scans in the ARTIFACT EDITION, Ernest. Just random story samplings.

(Since Terry, for his own reasons, would not let his pages be used, IDW could not reproduce full stories as in the ARTISTS EDITIONs.)

Of the most recent inkers you've worked with, Trevor Scott was my favorite.  I thought he did an excellent job on the Atom.

Not to be greedy, but when the heck is Captain America going to show up???

(I got into comics after JB left X Men, but I finally "see" the young Sigourney Weaver he said was his model for Kitty.)

Good lord, I want to see that in a comic book...
(Yes, I know for the reasons cited previously it would likely never happen. ;( )

Ok, I have a question JB.

I may be inking the above page, in the second panel I see you have indicated eyeballs for Wolverine. Did you intend them to be inked?

BTW, Awesome!!

Visible eyes only in the second and fourth panels. Artistic license!

An appeal of this imaginary "series" is not having to worry about editors telling me I can't use a character because he's in the middle of a 10 issue story arc.

That said, no Cap.

I was kidding about Cap. What we're seeing is plenty good.
