"the function of subplots -- to pique the reader's curiosity, and bring him/her back for more as the main story slides home."

A dying art unfortunately. I really enjoy solid subplots, I like to be hooked into wanting that next part! If there's nothing to look forward to readers might decide to jump off, so keep a few pins in the air however small or minor seeming (and they could always turn out not to be after all), but hopefully never random coincidence too much or plain ludicrous, that's another way I get lost.

"Puck... alluding to adventures he has "off screen" gives him more back story and makes him a richer character."

Milton Caniff was also great with that in the old Terry & The Pirates I've read where characters would come and go and then return having been doing something elsewhere and it would actually show.

Okay, so here's the patch for page 6...

Panel One, as before, including dialog.

Panel Two, Kitty gripes about being treated like some kind of school kid,

Panel Three: Scott reminds her that she has joined Professor Charles Xavier's SCHOOL for Gifted Youngsters.

Panel Four: Wolverine, still being a jerk, trips her, saying "Siddown squirt!"

Panel Five: Falling causes her to phase, automatically.

Panel Six: Same as before.

Cleaned up for today’s delicate sensibilities. I, however, was looking
forward to seeing Wolverine get his comeuppance.
The previous version put it in a place where I could understand why
Kitty would be jittery enough to phase accidentally through the floor of a
jet.
More beautiful art, though!

Did some article out there complain about the previous
version?

I have to admit I don't get the objections to the first version.

Neither do I! But we live in an age where we have to second guess ourselves at every turn.

Well, when Marvel decides to publish this, I'll give them a choice.

I mean, IF.

Wolverine is a homicidal maniac that barely keeps himself in check but an attempted spanking is over the line?

Remember back in THE AVENGERS when Hawkeye finished up a battle with Deathbird by laying a big smooch on her? We received ONE (1) letter of complaint, calling him a rapist.

Today, I wonder......
