Showed this thread to my little brother, who will turn 48 in a couple of weeks.
His first words were, "Oh my god, there he is. That's Wolverine. I've missed him."
I responded, "I know, right?" then he added, "Best. Birthday. Ever. And it's early."

I really love page 9. Everything clicks for me on this page, but if I had to pick a favorite thing it would be the characters' body language. Your characters don't pose, they act.••• One of the best compliments I've ever received. Thanks!

I'm the guy who goes on and on about how comics should be for "all ages," yet here I am building a project that is aimed directly at the more geezery end of my fans. How much appeal would this have to a twelve year old? Someone who was 12 in 1980, sure. But then the math gets depressing!!

SIDEBAR (of sorts): One of the things that depresses me whenever I take a look at one of the X-Men movies, is how much of Chris' mythology has become canon. When I left the book, it seemed there was no longer anyone there to say "No" to him. Backstories and origins got turned inside out. Interpretation of powers became more and more wonky. The biggest insanity, of course, being Magneto transforming from a fiendish mass murdered into a "freedom fighter". Oy!This will be one of the biggest hurdles to be faced by this little exercise. Already we have seen people trying to figure out where it "fits". We can be certain, as I go on, that there will be those who will protest the further my course carries me from the established timeline. If we extend the fantasy and imagine this becoming a real series, the internet would explode.

This will be one of the biggest hurdles to be faced by this little exercise. Already we have seen people trying to figure out where it "fits".
..
What?! A comic story that's fun and exciting and doesn't really care how it fits in with 40 years of continuity? That's just crazy talk!
As far as I'm concerned, I couldn't care less how it "fits." I'm just enjoying these pages and THIS story unfold.

The care and consideration with which you approach your work shows, JB. That is what I have come to understand and appreciate as I got older. Over the years your art, story telling, story content, etc. have evolved and changed as you seem to have searched for ways to improve your work. The one thing that I have never seen change is the reverence and care with which you handle your characters. Observations like, "your characters don't pose, they act" show how little can be considered phoned in. I don't remember who claimed when you draw a desk they are even character specific, but it's stuff like that that illustrates how much thought you put into your work. Even the fact that you mention comics are for kids, but this exercise clearly appeals mostly to the 45+ crowd. I wholeheartedly thank you for sharing, allowing us to tinker and letting glimpse at what could have been. If anything is a time machine, it is this thread.
