The red-and-white-and-yellow version of Angel's costume had the most godawful combination of colors. Yellow? Ick. Ack. Only his hair should've been yellow.

As you may know, the tampering with Neal's perfect Angel costume in THE CHAMPIONS came about because it was decided that the group had too many members who wore black. They couldn't mess wife Black Widow, since the color was in her name.* Ghost Rider was the only team member who had his own title. So Angel got elected.

Fortunately, when I drew the book, my pencils were in black and white, so Warren's costume looked more or less okay to me.

-------------------

* That tinkering would come later, during a prolonged period when artists seemed to start forgetting that the names were important.

I was introduced to Angel's red and yellow costume in Champions and X-men both with JB artwork, who makes everything look awesome. I still like that version.

Does Alex Toth rank in this, though his designs were for television? They are amongst my favorites.

Space Ghost, Herculoids, Birdman, and all the classic HB heroes of the 60s.
Thundarr the Barbarian (according to what I have read Kirby came in after Toth had designed the main characters)

Toth is right up there, that's for sure.

When citing Carmine Infantino’s designs, the classic Kid Flash costume
wasn’t mentioned. That one is a huge favorite of mine!

Yep!  People give credit to 60's Marvel for breaking with the "old-fashioned trunks" look, but Infantino did it years earlier with both the Flash AND Kid Flash!

Batgirl was a little later, but still a classic!

Don't forget Gil Kane's the Atom (for the no-trunks look). Still one of my favourite costumes ...

I miss the "normal" boots (wings aside) that Infantino gave Flash and Kid Flash.

Are we forgetting anyone?  Let me rephrase that--I'm sure we are forgetting some important people.  Like...

Joe Kubert--I prefer the Silver Age Hawkman (and his helmet!) to the original design, and then I suppose he is responsible for the look of Ragman, Sgt. Rock, Enemy Ace, and probably quite a few more.

Mike Grell--Hawkman's helmet reminded me of Grell's Warlord.  Grell designed a whole world full of people in Skartaris and a lot of those are stunning designs.  Some people will hate him forever for Cosmic Boy's black "bustier" and Tyroc (a look he is said to have sabotaged as a protest), but there are plenty of other Legion heroes, villains, and bystanders that he is responsible for that made the 30th Century an interesting-looking place.  I liked his Jon Sable Freelance and a lot of his designs for Starslayer.

And then there's...
Will Eisner--While a lot of young artists had to churn out a lot of work and characters in the WWII era, Eisner's usually had more charm and still hold up to this day.  Besides the Spirit, he gave us Doll Man, Blackhawk, Lady Luck, and a LOT of wild, goofy, and beautiful supporting characters.  I feel a bit silly that I forgot to include Eisner.
