Let's not forget Steve Ditko's earlier work for Marvel with all of those 5 page story gems from titles like Amazing Adult Fantasy, Strange Tales, and Tales to Astonish.

Fun morality tales.

RIP Steve.  He had a good run and kept to his principles.

I'm a relative latecomer to Ditko like I was to Kirby. A friend's podcast Screw It, we're just going to talk about Spider-man has me really gaining deeper and deeper appreciation for what Ditko and Lee created.

Some of you may enjoy these two HUGE Ditko fans talking through their feelings and observations about Ditko here http://screwitspidey.libsyn.com/eulogy-for-steve-ditko

I'm only just seeing this now. Like Ted, I'm still adjusting from Harlan Ellison's death, and this feels even more odd, as Ellison was very much a public figure and Ditko was very much NOT.

So it's sort of like "the Invisible Man has just left the building."

Ditko was one the few truly distinctive comics artists. There damn well better be a HUGE tribute to him coming from Marvel in the next issue of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and whatever other Spider-title there currently are.

Articles about Ditko's death continue to proliferate across the Web. A stark contrast to Jack Kirby, whose death twenty-five years ago was barely noticed outside the industry.

Times change.

I noticed how headlines are saying "Co-creator of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange Dead". A few years ago the headline would have just said "Co-creator of Spider-Man Dead".

He was a man of principle, and whether you agreed or disagreed with what he believed, he stuck to them, never selling out. He had no interest in the fan fawning or publicity. and was vilified for being a private person. Like he owed people.

A very intriguing character in comic book history.
