The changes also includes the design of the characters. The one I can think of in that regard is Tigra. Once she was a normal looking female, at least what appearance is concerned, with a orange colored skin and black stripes. It could just as well have been tattoos.

Todays she is furry, has a long tail, claws and eyes with split pupils. I'm not sure if this is just the choice of the artists or if she has gone through some actual change.

The tail's newer (though it HAS been 33 years since she got it), but the rest has been there from the beginning:

(The way it was drawn may have been "skin like," but it was always supposed to be fur.)

She's been furry and clawed, with slit pupils since she became Tigra.

Mike, thank you!

Olav, if I'm not mistaken Tigra was furry and cat-eyed from her start in Giant-Size Creatures #1. She was short-haired, so the artists did not draw her as shaggily as she sometimes appears today, but I do believe the fur coat was there from the beginning.

The character has undergone physical transformations over the course of her history, however. She started off as a regular ol' human in The Cat #1, albeit one inked by Wally Wood, so... wow. She was saved by the Cat People in G-S Creatures #1 and turned into Tigra. A later encounter with members of that race in the West Coast Avengers led to her gaining more cat-like facial features and a tail. The soft, black nose has since gone away. More may have been done to her since I stopped following the books.

Edit: Mike and Dave are both faster on the draw than I am...

At least they gave her more human ears. The oldest comics I have with Tigra is the George Perez version in Fantastic Four, where she was definitely not furry or had a tail.

Another example is Killer Croc from Batman. He went from a human with a skin disease to an actual monster. Also Curt Connor's Lizard has been through some changes even if his alter ego has always looked like a reptile.

(First on obviously not be Perez):

Tigra was furry in the same sense that Nightcrawler was later said to be furry. The hair's just very short and so the artist doesn't use a broken line or brush work to describe it. I've never read her being described as "orange-skinned."

"A later encounter with members of that race in the West Coast Avengers led to her gaining more cat-like facial features and a tail. The soft, black nose has since gone away. More may have been done to her since I stopped following the books."

So that's where she got her tail. And a catlike nose, which is now gone. Seems like there are some disagreements about how many catlike features she should have.

"I've never read her being described as "orange-skinned.""

That was my description based on the way she is portrayed in older comics. Just compare her with the orange skinned Ben Grimm.

(It was my intention to post another image by Perez, but no matter how small I make it, I keep getting the message that it is more than 600 pixels.)

Morning Olva. For the image you are trying to post, try changing the resolution (maybe 100dpi). Hope this helps.

I decided to pick up the recent Spider-Man storyline
leading to the 800th issue. Enjoyable enough but it was
so overwhelming with all the baggage the character has
picked up in the last 15 years since I regularly
followed.
