At the mercy of the art dealers, Dave. They set the price, I just decide whether or not to pay it. I think the least amount I've paid for a JB FF page has been $3,250.00 - and that was from a private sale. If it had been through a dealer, I'm sure it would have been more.

Steve The page is whole, so they must use overlay's to finish off the cover.

I had to get a page from Marvel The Lost Generation.•• Note that page was done during the height of the "Byrne Never Draws Backgrounds" nonsense!

Bert, I was attempting to answer Rebecca’s initial question as to why many of the original art pages have their corners cut off.

Kind of a reminder of how the pages were viewed as just work product by many back then.•• Including the artists. Return of artwork was rare, in some quarters unheard of. Advertising art was rarely returned, for instance. And for the artists, there was no reason to want the art back. What would they do with it? There was no real market for original art. Something to keep in mind when we consider the furor over art returns in more recent times.

My first page was actually five pages by John I bought through Jim Warden as a group maybe ten or twelve years ago. A Generations 2 page featuring the Joker and Batman and Robin, a page from X:THY 11 featuring a busted-up Sentinel rebuilding himself, a page from She-Hulk 48 featuring all of the FF, another X:THY page from 19 with the group falling thru a shaft into a subterranean vault and a page from JK4W 13. Love them all but for some reason I particularly enjoy the one below featuring less famous characters. The textures / effects on this page are truly cosmic and amazing to see in person. There were a few notes in the margins but nothing unexpected on the back. Bargain priced to me... a couple hundreds bucks I think.

Some of the newer artists are 100% digital. I've had a few that I've asked about specific pages on twitter, and they said they don't bother w/ physical originals (and in some cases, never had).

My fall into the rabbit hole was in 99 when I was following JB posts on the board he posted on back then, was it Magnus' site or AOL, I can't remember? But on that site, like a genius, I one day clicked on links tab and saw a link to JB's art dealer... WHAT!!! YOU CAN BUY JOHN'S ART?!?!?!
I was instantly hooked and have sent many an email to Jim Warden ever since!
Here's a page that was in my first little group of pages sent from gentleman Jim:

"From what I heard the corners were cut off of the original art at the printers. The pages were taped to a drum for scanning, after the scanning process the scanner operator would cut the taped corners off to remove them. "
Thanks for that Steve. I had never known and that makes a lot of sense!
That Lost Generation page with Pixie looks great in b&w!

My first page of original art is a page from Gil Kane's Star Hawks.
Bought it for $25 at my first American comic book convention in 1989. A bargain even then. Used to the unaffordable prices of European artists, I bought as many pages as my student budget would allow (unfortunately no John Byrne piece was among them).
Still one of my favorite pieces and still up on my studio wall.
