In the American system, voting for a third party in a national election is tantamount to not voting at all.

********************************

What happens when Americans vote third party?  We get Trump as President.

"Even though I lean more to the right than a lot of my fellow posters, I like the idea of Democrats taking the House while the Republicans keep the Senate. I may be overly optimistic but a lot of excuses are gone right now for both sides not to work together."

Shawn I hope they can work together too but I get the feeling they're just going to go at each other for the next two years.  Politicians have been talking about rebuilding the infrastructure for decades, with hardly any rebuilding having gone on.  The same with health care; both of my kids have policies with huge deductibles which makes the insurance nearly useless.

Robbie, I learned not to take anything you say seriously anyhow. And I read your manual... your old manual was better.

Too much has changed or is changing at this instant in American politics to treat voting as seriously as it should be. At one point, a more-than-dual voting party system not only worked, but was healthy for the country.

But today, I fear that too many voters stepped into the booth and thought, "Republican, republican, republican... yes, yes, yes.... " Or replace that with Democrat.

I don't think the best candidates have any opportunity to be elected. The road to a political office is paved with gold and favors... and if you ain't getting gold and/or favors, you have no chance to get into office, no matter how qualified you are.

My problem is I never read the manual.  I just jump right in.

Looks like we're headed for recounts in both the Florida and Arizona Senate races, as well as Florida governor.  Rick Scott is already out there making baseless, inflammatory accusations of fraud a la Trump.
