Ed and the crew are very green...

••

Are they?

Ed is new to command, but has made a sufficient rep for himself to be given that command. The rest of the bridge crew, excepting Gordon, were already serving when he came aboard.

I don't see how Isaac can be welcomed back by the crew after this.
I see 2 options moving forward:

1. Isaac turns against his own kind being an outcast among his people.
2.This entire scenario was some sort of simulation run by the Kaylon as a component of their final decision to to join the Union.

1. Likely, but I am prepared to be surprised.

2. I’d never watch the show again.

Can't see it being a simulation. Or as I'd call that: 'an entire episode of cheating the viewer'.

Now I’m troubled by the atmospheric flight. Watching the show, I just thought “Cool!” but...

Those engine arches don’t seem built for gravity. Like the nacelles on the Enterprise. It’s another thing that, by the shows internal logic, seems to point to a simulation.

I’ll shortly be watching the episode for the third time. I’ll have to see if there are any earlier “clues”. Dog, I hope not!!

Since the cat is of of the bag .... if the Emissary title is a nod to DS9 there may be a similarity of this episode to the two part episodes "The Search" of the third season of DS9.  If the scan of the Orville was more than a scan .... it explains the ship landing and how easily Ty got off the Orville etc etc

On the my second watch I was struck by the Empire Strikes Back visual nods.

All I know its the first time in a long time a two part episode has me anticipating the next episode and immediately rewatching the show as it airs.

I find myself wondering about the significance of the title “Identity”.

I really don't see them revealing the whole thing to be a cheat.

I envision one of three resolutions: Issac stays, Issac goes, or Issac becomes a recurring villain.

Some viewers have noted a conspicuous shot of Issac moving to the Bridge computer station at the end of the episode, which might be some kind of subtle setup for the resolution. I've only watched the episode once, and I didn't notice it.

Isaac! Isaac! Isaac!

I'm not going to try and second guess. Just diminishes the impact if someone has guessed right. That said, it is hard to see how he gets welcomed back into the crew after this, unless he's reborn or rewired or something.

Fingers crossed it's not a cheat. JB's speculation that the ship operating in gravity might be an intentional flaw has me slightly worried...

Third time watching it... damn good tv

I think not on the simulation/dream thing now tho it was a fun little rabbit hole to go down.
