I'm bummed to see any cast member leave as they are such a great cast and I like each character, but really loved Alara. IMDB lists her in all the episodes this season, but I guess they had to as to not spoil her departure.

I kept dismissing those rumors since there was never any hint of any official (or even unofficial) word from the show or any of the actors.  Because of the silence, I was theorizing that perhaps they are making it look like she's leaving the show and then there will be a surprise return.

Of course wishful thinking may be involved on my part.

Has there been any confirmation that she's off the show now that the episode has aired?

Phlox vs the EMH! Loved it.
It was sad to see Alara leave-- she was an interesting character and I hope she returns at some point.
Really, THE ORVILLE is the best STAR TREK we've seen in a very long time.

Just watched the first ep of season 2, i had a smile on
my face throughout.I spotted that the bulbous headed
alien is Cleveland Brown!
I just love how "Next Gen" it is, but how it subverts
expectations, is funny and serious at the same time. I
think it may be my favourite show at the moment.

Home was an interesting one... and ultimately turned out to be an excellent episode, I thought. And it did surprise me. As Greg said, it became quite dark and tense there for a bit and this episode was, what, 5% humour? Seemed to be the most serious episode so far. And a surprise to devote an entire episode to one character, only to then get rid of the character. Not sure I like the show reflecting the major structural beats of TNG quite so closely. Will Bortus now become head of security?

Wonderful send-off scene for Alara. The score by Joel McNeely was beautiful for this scene -- lovely warm trumpet solo and a pretty piece of music as a whole.

+++++++++

As I watched the episode, I found myself thinking the same think. Not much comedy in this “comedy”. It was essentially played as a straightforward sci-fi/drama story. Sort of a riff on TNG’s “Family”.

Overall, an enjoyable episode. I caught the subtle note that in Alara's daydream, she's not Xelayan.

I've been hoping that Patrick Warburton would appear on the show at some point....but I ended up feeling disappointed by this execution. It would have been interesting to see him take on a more serious role than he usually does. Hey, 2 SEINFELD cast members in one episode.

Gordon's line in reaction to seeing Alara's planet and Ed's reaction to it were both amusing and interesting.

Gordon's line was proven when he threw the metal flask in the driveway to see it crushed. (The flask seemed to fall faster in the higher gravity, unlike everything else in the episode.) I expected Alara's father to find it later and comment on it.

Well done episode. (snif snif)

But why didn’t they have two shuttles last week?

Good catch!
Not sure if I've seen Bortus fly a shuttle so it may be moot.

I'm going to miss seeing Alara aboard the Orville.
