Time continues to move forward.  For your viewing and discussion pleasure, I give you the list of new titles available this week.  Here's what I'm getting:

  • HARLEY QUINN #57 - For my son, actually.
  • DOMINO #10 - This is one of two X related title that I'm still following.  I still like the feel of this series.
  • FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #1 - I'll try this, as I am enjoying the other two Spider-man titles.  The preview that I saw did not thrill me, but maybe once I see the whole thing, I'll change my mind.
What are you getting?

Haven't gotten a box for six weeks so nothing much to say about most.

Blackbird #4
Cemetery Beach #5
Criminal #1 - time to dig out and refresh my memory of the previous series
Die #2
LoEG Tempest #4 - making up ground in the schedule? Wow.
Deathstroke #39
Green Lantern #3 - guess I'm on board for Morrison; cute cover
Avengers #12
Thor #9 - So Jason Aaron's climactic Thor story is going to be a separate mini now? Sometimes I feel like Marvel marketing is carefully designed to annoy me out of buying their books. (See also - the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #16U.)

GL and Thor were late inspirations so I went to an LCS to get them. While I was there, I also grabbed:

Conan #1 - for some reason (blame the old "Life of Conan" feature in Conan Saga perhaps?) I've been wanting a Death of Conan story, so the title of the 12 part opener got my attention. We'll see what I think of it. (My initial thought was to wait for #12 to come out to see if they actually do it in a way that at least broadly fits into the old Marvel continuity, but whim got to me.)

Terrifics #11 - It's silly, but I wanted a copy of the DC Stan Lee tribute and this was the most appealing of the available options. Kind of hoping I don't really enjoy it. My monthly purchases have been creeping upward for a while now.

Deathstroke #39- I've made it 39 issues with a character I don't care for, thank you Mr. Priest.

Young Justice #1- Maybe
Avengers #12- I still would like this better if Jason Aaron wasn't trying so hard to make it like the MCU.

Captain Marvel #1- I'll give this a chance.

Thor #9- Now that Aaron is writing Conan, I wonder if this book will read less like that. His version of Thor has always felt a little more like Conan.

Uncanny X-Men #9- This book is kind of all over the place which I guess you get with 3 writers.

Two new titles to try:

Captain Marvel and Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man's #1s
Domino #10 which has been a great series so far, hope the switch of title is not the start of the end
Avengers #12, getting better but still not great
Thor #9, also bored of this but hoping War of the Realms breathes some life into it

CRIMINAL #1 - Glad to see Brubaker and Sean Phillips back on the stands again doing more Criminal stories.
HIT-GIRL #12
PRODIGY #2

GREEN LANTERN #3 - I usually like Grant Morrison but may drop this soon. It's like he just ignored all the stuff that's happened in the book over the last twenty years, something he used to accuse JB of doing.
BATMAN # 62
ADVENTURES OF THE SUPER SONS #6 - This is for my son. He really likes this comic.

LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN: TEMPEST #4 - Didn't issue 3 just come out a week or two ago?

Would have purchased UNEXPECTED #8 and DIE #2 but apparently my LCS either didn't order either, despite having the earlier issues, or they sold out before I got there. Supposedly they've reordered them even though I still haven't gotten the UNEXPECTED #7 I asked my LCS to order last month, despite purchasing the first six issues there. Pretty big week for me though even without those 2 comics.

I grabbed the last few issues of Batgirl as well. Paul Pelletier does the art and he's a favorite of mine.

My copies of Sara #1-6 just came in. I always have time for Steve Epting and Garth Ennis can be fun when he stays away from super-heroes. Thanks to John Popa for bringing the series to my attention a few weeks back.

I DO wish I'd done the extra bit of research to notice they're publishing their books in a "deluxe oversized format." I got single issues because that's my preferred format but now I have no obvious place to put the silly things. :-) Hopefully the "collector's box" the books came in is sturdy enough for long term bookshelf use.

Marvel's Secret Empire TBP - I bought this last week. I enjoyed the story but the art was awful. I found it a little confusing at times, but I guess that's because I didn't read any of the crossover issues or the issues leading up to it.

Marvel's Secret Wars - Not bad so far. Doom playing god seems interesting.

Amazing Spider-Man: Venom inc. - Fun read. I'm really enjoying discovering Dan Slott's Spider-Man.

DIE #2 - Basically a more serious look at the "Dungeons and Dragons" cartoon from the 80's - a group of gamers are taken off to another world and return only to find themselves forever changed. This issue was more intriguing than the first, it's enough to keep me interested.

CAPTAIN MARVEL #1 - Nothing fundamentally wrong with it but the endless 'witty banter' grated on me.  Not EVERYONE should talk like Buffy and Iron Man talking like Robert Downey Jr. doesn't work if it's not actually Downey Jr. The villain's dialogue is comically bad - it really feels like it's out of a spoof of bad comic book dialogue. The art's standard art of the day - perfectly functional but there's nothing about the look of it that's special. Not enough to keep me interested long term, I'm afraid.

In my opinion, the worst thing that the movies have brought about is that almost every writer at Marvel feels that they have to have quippy dialogue in every book between every character. For a while it was just Bendis then the movies came out and now every writer seems to write that way.
