Everyone seems to forget that Red Sonja should technically be a Marvel character. She was created by Roy Thomas inspired by a Howard character, but with an entirely different backstory. Even a different spelling of the name.

Funny, I just bought all the Byrne/JRjr/Mackie issues from my LCS two weeks ago. I couldn't find a complete run for years (I browsed the run at Books A Million back but I wasn't buying comics at the time) and finally was able to get ahold of them. I'm getting ready to start the Return of the Sinister Six story.

When Howard and I started on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN we agreed that the two spider-books would be separate entities, dealing with different aspects of Parker’s life.

Unfortunately, that didn’t last long, and one of the reasons I left was that I grew weary of drawing Part One while Part Two went to the other book.

So—how does this collection handle that?

Doesn't look like it handles it at all to me. Marvel normally includes all the issues in a crossover in these things. It's strange that they aren't. I guess that since it is such a big book they had to make a decision of including the other issues or including all of your earlier Spider-Man work. I would have split it into 2 volumes personally...

Other recent Marvel collections usually use recap blurbs to summarize any missing issues.  For example, after AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 12, the next page would likely be the cover to AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 13.  Above the cover would be a brief paragraph saying "In PETER PARKER SPIDER-MAN 12, Spider-Man....etc. " Of course, usually the recaps are to tell about things which happened in between the stories of the collection and aren't that important to the stories contained.  In this case, the actual conclusions to many of the stories will be left out, which is unfortunate.

Pretty much the reason I never bought any issues until I could find the complete run. I remember grabbing an issue of Amazing* and seeing at the end "Continued in Peter Parker: Spider-Man". I love JRjr but I picked up the Amazing issue for JB's art. At the time, I didn't want to have to buy two runs of two different series to get the story.

*My LCS lets you take an issue out of the bag and browse the comic.

That name is so 90s.

It’s one of those sketch variant covers with some blank space for an original sketch.

ETA: The interiors are just ink and pencils, which I would presume is what is being reprinted, as the cover is a JRjr one.

This volume has now been released, at least in some places!  Amazon shows the release date as September 17, but www.instocktrades.com has it available now for 50% off ($62.50) with free shipping.  It appears that it should be available at comic retailers on September 4.
