TIME has a new point-of-purchase magazine with this title. Features a full page reproduction of the cover of X-MEN 135–which amuses me, somewhat, since at the time I drew that cover 99.99% of the world’s population hadn’t even heard of the X-Men.

How bizarre it must be to have been part of creating 40 years ago what is today globally recognized -- and yet you can barely recognize in it what your work actually was!

Yes, the caption on the picture identifies the upcoming DARK PHOENIX movie as “based on this arc.” Well, I’ll be perfectly happy to take the money (after all, the IMDb lists me as one of the writers), but…

I've said it before but I love the fact that it was just a story like any other story. You guys at Marvel weren't thinking that it would be huge, talked about decades laterand be made into a film. If it was done today, Marketing would be all over now (not that marketing is a bad thing).

It was Chris, me, Louise Jones and Shooter’s big fat thumb that created that issue. (By his own admission, Shooter’s interference came from him not having done his job properly.) Today, the slightest whisper of what Chris and I were doing would have brought dozens of others in to grab their own piece of the pie—not to mention probably hordes of retailers wanting to return the book and get their money back since it wasn’t what would have been solicited!
