I always thought the ‘H’ stood for ‘hero’. I thought I remembered that
being established somewhere but I guess I just filled that in for myself.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but it has only occurred to me now looking at Box's face in that panel -- was he inspired by the robot Box from Logan's Run?

Speaking of the Box robot, I always thought that the red and silver version of the Box robot might have been inspired by Tor from the Mighty Orbots animated series.

Box took his name from LOGAN’S RUN, but nothing else.

JB is there any character from Beta or Gamma that interests you enough to use elsewhere (or when), if you had the opportunity?

I liked the double-barrelled names of the Gamma/Omega Flight bad guy characters - Diamond Lil, Smart Alec, Wild Child, Flashback (sorta) - which was kind of reinforced when Box turned out to be one of the angels. Just a thing that jumped out at me when we met them in AF 12-13. I really enjoyed the concept and design behind each character, as well.

I think Mal just seems 'one of the good guys' where as for a while he looked to be as evil as the rest of OF.

I think he’s just say Bochs ended up being a good guy and not going bad in Omega Flight.

That said, you probably DON’T want to know what ended up happening to him. At least as far as what Mantlo did to him. No idea if he’s appeared since then.

I know Bill "cured" him. Somewhat ironic, really, that I populated Alpha with people overcoming their disabilities, and Bill got rid of those disabilities.

No. He “cured” Puck. With Bochs, he established that Jeffries first met and befriended him in an asylum with Bochs being a psychopath because of his lack of legs. At some point after Langkowski was gone and both men were reunited in AF, Aurora and Bochs became an item. It wasn’t really revealed whether or not they were actually a couple or if she was just flirting with him because she kept referring to not want wanting to be with him because of his lack of legs. But then she’d still flirt with him. Anyway, Jeffries’s brother was introduced and his power was to be able to transmutate human flesh instead of machinery and was a nutcase villain. Then he was cured and convinced by Bochs to fix him so he would by worthy of Aurora. Then Langkowski came back, but as a woman and Aurora was spending more time with her/him which pushed Bochs back over the edge and he tried to kill AF. He ended up being killed by Jeffries’s brother after they had merged bodies and Jeffries killed the merged being.

Jeffries is now finally sleeping with Heather because why weren’t they together in the first place? Especially since she now knows Mac for the monster he always was.

He did. That’s what I meant by “fix” him. Sorry. I didn’t realize if that’s what you were referring to when you said “cured” and that term was specifically used for Puck.
