Sad news. I am sure there will be a number of memorials held for him by fans this May 4, for Star Wars Day.

Another loss from my childhood - very sad.  Thank you, "Chewy" for the lifetime of joy and happiness!

Amazing bit of acting. No recognizable dialogue and wearing a full body costume, yet able to convey such emotion!

Another hero of my childhood.

The most iconic film from my childhood was Star Wars. The characters in that film quickly became icons and, looking back, it was perfectly cast. Though the role goes on, no one will ever fill that shaggy suit in the way Peter Mayhew did. The body language was quite identifiable. And after having seen the documentary 'Empire of Dreams', forever seared in my mind has been Mayhew remarking, 'That old man is crazy,' before Harrison Ford concurs, 'You said it, Chewie.'

Very sad. The wife and I briefly met him a handful of years ago. Rest easy Chewie.

Sad news. Got the newsflash on my iPhone. I was at a restaurant today and the staff was putting up cardboard figures of Star Wars characters and I had to inform them of Mr. Mayhew's passing. I know he had health issues in recent years. Sorry for his family and fans.

Sorry to hear of his passing. A gentle giant indeed.

Rest in peace, Chewie... and fly casual

Very sad news to hear this morning. I met Peter Mayhew once at a convention and saw him at a distance many other times. He seemed like a kind man and realized how much he shaped the lives of us all. Forever grateful having Chewie to look up to. Thank you, Peter Mayhew.
