Saw this on Facebook and asked if I could post here -- I thought JB could bring some clarity to the idea
As I said on FB, I don't see why JB would make up a story about Kirby being erased

Hannigan did not design that cover, I did. I drew Kirby, Marvel removed him. He was originally in front of Stan, to the left, and would have ended up covered by that white circle, which they added later. (Most unusual for a blank space to be left for a blurb that was to be pasted on.). I wonder where this guy thinks Kirby was positioned?

JB: I wonder where this guy thinks Kirby was positioned?
---
He just insists you just didn't draw him at all. He said that circle was left open for text -- and there's no other available space you could have drawn him.
I don't see any motivation in you lying about this... what would be the point?
Oh well.

That same guy is in a Kirby group and spouts the usual Jack Kirby did everything, Stan Lee did nothing nonsense.

Richard, that seems consistent with someone willing to ignore the statements of an artist over the current owner of the work. The LACK of "erase marks" means it never happened or maybe, just maybe, time and very careful erasing left no "erase marks". =/

At the time of publication some flak was directed my way for not including Kirby. When I responded that I HAD done so, but Marvel’s lawyers had ordered him removed (according to Shooter), no one questioned my word. For this to become an issue almost forty years later points to some folk who seriously need to GET A LIFE.

Imagine people griping about Jack Kirby in 1990 over some single drawing he'd done in 1950. This kind of motive against John Byrne resides somewhere in loony land.

Could you talk a bit about working with a cover designer, JB?

Not much to say. I’d be sent a sketch, and I’d draw it.

I wasn't aware of Ed Hannigan's involvement in the FF's cover designs. There you go, always something new to learn and from a direction I've never suspected.

I didn't know the covers were designed by someone else either. A bit odd, as I never pictured JB needing any direction in this regard, he's consistently produced excellent and highly innovative covers, before, during, and after his FF run.
