Sadly, that story has led to many fans and pros wrongly thinking that Wolverine's healing factor was actually that powerful and that he can heal from anything.

••

One of the movies showed him "healing" as he was being disintegrated.

Kind of misses a whole lot of points, there.

Mr. Byrne, I believe that movie was "X-Men 3: The Last Stand." Or "Wolverine, guest starring the X-Men." But that was hardly unique.

Riddle me this: Wolverine regenerated from a single drop of blood. That implies that all that was left of Wolverine was that single drop of blood. What would have occurred had there been two drops of blood? Or several splashes of blood, a hunk of bone, a hank of hair...? Would there be a spate of Wolverines?

Of course, that would work with the proper CGI. "X-Men 4: War of the Wolverines." I'm just glad that no writer ever had that idea for the comics... and that might very well have been a money maker for Marvel. But it certainly violates Stan's Law, and then it would spread to the Hulk, Deadpool, and other regenerators.

If memory serves, the Hulk did indeed tear Wolverine in half once... and Wolverine grew back. How did his healing factor know which half to grow back? And why not both?

And why do I care in the least? Quick, someone get me a Weisinger era Superman annual!

Again, I think back to Wolverine attacking the Hellfire Club goons, and getting shot with a machine gun for his troubles. Despite my having drawn what was obviously a direct hit (several, in fact) Shooter insisted that Chris script it as Logan only being “grazed”. Otherwise it was “too unrealistic.”

It was "Utlimate Hulk" who ripped "Ultimate Wolverine" in half. Just for the record. At least it wasn't in the mainstream Marvel universe, where we know that the Hulk can't break adamantium.

Wasn't that story written by a Hollywood writer?

I believe it was Damon Lindelof, who was a writer on Lost. It still blows my mind how we went from a period where an editor-in-chief said "Dial it back a little bit" to and editor-in-chief who said "Do whatever you want." It all fits with Marvel in the last 20+ being all about retcons, "what you knew was wrong", everything is connected, and people with super powers are commonplace to the point that they're not "marvels".

Well although Hulk can't break adamantium, I believe he still could break apart Wolverine's articulations tearing off ligaments and members and so the vertebral columns ("separating" vertebrae).
