Simple one who are your five favourite superhero rogues gallery. Doesn't have to be in any order.

Mine:

  • Batman
  • The Flash
  • Spider-Man
  • Fantastic Four
  • Superman

Batman walks away with first place easily. I'd put the FF second, tho, with Spider-Man third. Flash and Superman mostly have "gimmick" villains, which are not my favorites.

One of the things I pushed against during my time at Marvel and DC, tho, was the whole idea of "rogues galleries". Seems like any villain worth his salt would be a threat to EVERYONE!

Just to clarify...

When I mention the X-Men's rogues gallery, I'm thinking of Blob, Magneto, Mastermind, Mimic, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Toad and Unas, not characters like Apocalypse or Mister Sinister.

Superman does have quality arch-foes but I'm not entirely thrilled with how Darkseid became something like a specifically Superman villain.

Surprisingly, the Flash's villains became less gimmicky and more three-dimensional during the years when Barry was (supposedly) dead and Wally was "the" Flash. (Jay was more elder statesman, so to speak, than anything else.)

I like a lot of the Spider-Man villains but it still bothers me that Norman Osborn came back. I love Hobgoblin (the "real" one, the "Roger Stern Hobgoblin") and Osborn's return made him more-or-less redundant.

And currently Doctor Octopus isn't Doctor Octopus. It's annoying.

The top three were no-brainers for me--

1. BATMAN - Legendary

2. SPIDER-MAN - Classic

3. THE FLASH - When I was a kid reading the Bates/Novick run, the Rogues WERE the book's supporting cast...and I was fine with that!

The next two were a little harder.  Captain America and the Fantastic Four have some of the best villains ever, but, aside from the Red Skull and Dr. Doom, I could sort of live without most of the others coming back too often, which seems an inherent quality of a "Rogues Gallery"--almost like a supporting cast (see the three above).  So, after much thought, I settled on--

4. THE X-MEN - Yeah, I want to see the Blob, Magneto, etc. and even a bunch of the newer ones show up regularly.  (But maybe not so much Phoenix!)  Aside from the word "Evil" in the Brotherhood's name, I think the line between "good" mutants and "bad" mutants in the X-Men's world often blurs, so I want to keep up with the "bad guys" almost as much as the "good guys."

5. SUPERMAN - But, specifically, the Swan era Superman!  Besides the big ones (Luthor, Brainiac, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Bizarro, maybe Metallo), I liked the ones we don't see anymore (at least not in any recognizable form)--Parasite, Amalak, Terra Man, Blackrock (it was a mystery!), and Vartox (he was a friend--but he always brought trouble!).  That's actually not a lot to work with (made all the more obvious whenever they make a movie--"Oh gee, it's Luthor again!"), but it squeaks by into "Gallery" numbers.

There's no beating Batman here. SOO many classic villains - and villains who'd cause real problems for anyone.

The rest:

2. Spider-Man

3. Superman

4. Fantastic Four

5. Daredevil

Is DC or Marvel heading the crossover this time? :-)

I think it's a race to which one goes off on a self-aggrandizing rant and upends the board first.
