"Fascinated by the apparent demand for work that falls deep inside “his old stuff was better” territory. Proof again, I suppose, that “old stuff” is measured on a sliding scale."

Speaking of which, I was shocked when I realized that almost same amount of time has passed between your leaving X-MEN in 1980 and going back to X:HY in 1999 as between the end of X:HY in 2001 and your working on ELSEWHEN today.

What I remember from the JB Doom Patrol is that it gained steam after a while, and got better and better, and even addictively good. Do people here agree on this? Or is it just me?

I enjoyed the entire series. The vampire "transition" issues were the least engaging for me, and those focusing on Grunt and Nudge were the most so. I wish JB owened Grunt, Nudge and her ghost soldier boyfriend (whose name escapes me at the moment) so that we could see more of them.

At least my ownership might have protected them!

That's how I found it. I was very disappointed there wasn't a longer run. I hadn't seen the other versions outside the original '60s comic and the Teen Titans appearance circa #13-15 and I thought it was really solid. The extras in this collection make it tempting, I'll have to check it out. I did see the '70s Showcase revival DP. I did not like the Joe Staton redesign for Robotman though, but there was a funny cover on the Comic Reader by JB about that!

Altho some fans at the time interpreted that TCR cover as indicating deep animosity between Joe Staton and me, it was actually inspired by Joe having been told to make the new Robotman a “Byrne robot”.

I received my copy yesterday.

This will give me some reading enjoyment over the upcoming weekend.

Got mine today. Nice that there's lots of extras including art sketches and character designs plus older DP stories that JB worked on.

But the binding is awful. Marvel has got a bit worse recently with their Omni binding but it's still a million times better than this. Only the middle fof the book lays flat.

Also, odd to put in a foreword by JB that is actually the text piece from #1 of the run.
