This is the first time in my adult life I've been interested in a Bond film. Let's see what they do.

Any chance there's a swerve, though, and Bond is back to being 007 by the end?

One thing that plays in favor of Daniel Craig as Bond, is that he looks a little bit like Vladimir Putin. That somehow makes him credible as a spy.

I'll bet my right arm Bond will be 007 before the end of the first act.
Bond in this movie is currently retired in the Bahamas after the events of the last movie. It's no surprise that the 007 codename would be applied to a new agent - and once she goes out to bring him back into the fold, it'll be business as usual.

A nice plot twist for this movie and it already caught the public's attention.I doubt though, that the lady will stay on as 007 beyond the story of this film.

It would have been a nice plot twist, if they hadn`t revealed it months before release!

I'm a huge Bond fan and completely fine with this, which amounts to nothing anyway. In the books, the numbers have been reused when an agent dies (or presumably retires) and Bond himself, in a post-Fleming prequel last year (Forever and a Day by Anthony Horowitz), shows Bond taking on the 007 mantle from a friend who is killed. This is a fun way to make 007 (not Bond) a woman and also a person of color. I've long thought, and I have seen JB and others note it as well, just create new characters if you want to rectify the "good old days" way of having most heroes male and white. Idris Elba, for example would be great in a Bond film (or any film), but as Bond, not really. My reasons are he's almost as old as Daniel (too old to get started anyway), and also because Fleming's creation is a white male with Scottish background; not because Idris is black. At any rate, looking very forward to Bond 25 and then whatever happens after that.

On the bright side, they are at least creating a new character.
I have little interest in this franchise unless they go back to adapting the novels.

James Bond/007 is such a guy's thing though, unless they think this is what guys are going to want to see I can't see doing such a change. Then again I don't know why people pay to see a lot of movies that apparently make a lot of money... I don't see why her number should/would be 007; you'd think that like a star athlete his number would be retired from anyone else using it. Then there's probably a lot I don't know about this franchise.

I'd kill for this.
Give all the novels in chronological order the CASINO ROYALE treatment. But making them period pieces of course... (sigh) it's nice to dream.

"Bond is still Bond but he's having to learn to deal with the world of #MeToo.""
What does that mean? Let's be frank: Bond is a Cold War-era secret agent who uses any and every means to achieve his ends. That includes murder, deceit, and sexual manipulation. And it applies to anyone who takes over the 007 designation, because that is part of the job.
How that can be adapted to the #MeToo era, yet still retain the same character, baffles me.
In my opinion, they should have either dropped the franchise altogether (yeah, right, kill that cash cow!), make it a period piece like Rodrigo says, or have a 007 female spinoff, like 006, effectively retiring the 007 character.
