I think back to Jim Shooter one day declaring "Anyone can be Iron Man! Anyone can be Captain America!"

Well, sure. Anyone can wear the suits. But being Iron Man or Captain America isn't just about the wardrobe. It's about the MAN. About who he is, and how he as lived his life. His personal experiences. His beliefs and philosophies.

"James Bond" is a person, not a suit. So, as noted, unless they want to follow the lead of the first CASINO ROYALE movie, and turn "James Bond" into a code name (superfluous, since he already has one), JAMES BOND remains the guy we've been reading about and viewing since the early 1950s (even as the actors change), and 007 becomes transferable.

Simple, really.

They have revealed the new Bond's title is 'No Time to Die'.

Better than 'Spectre', I suppose, but not very inventive.

A spectacularly bland title.

But better that Shatterhand.

Yeah, Shatterhand sounds like a Rob Liefield character.

Was Shatterhand a name they actually considered, a rumor, or a code name, ie Blue Harvest?

The title is kind of bland. Sounds more like a missing Doc Savage pulp than a Bond movie.....

When they had the big launch event in Jamaica with all the stars, but then failed to actually name the film, I figured someone high up had got cold feet with the title.
I could see why if it was going to be called Shatterhand.

Shatterhand would have been an awesome title. It's a reference to YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, the best Bond novel, which I'd love to see adapted more straightforwardly to the screen.

YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE... the best Bond novel.

•••

Hm. A good one, to be sure. But my vote for “best” has to go to FROM RUSSIA, WITH LOVE.
