(I offered them to my local library and honestly don’t think I could have gotten a more contemptuous response if I’d been offering a bound collection of NUNS AND NAZIS.)

That just seems insanely stupid to me. Most libraries these days have a pretty good collection of hardcover and softcover comic collections. Even my small town library has several shelves filled with various collections from Marvel, DC, and almost all of the independent companies. I do think that donations are typically not put on the shelves to be checked out but instead are sold to buy the books and other stuff that they put on shelves (even when the donations are in great shape which also seems weird to me). But even if they are just sold to get more books for the library, selling some of these collections at library fund raising events like the ones my local library has several times a year would result in a lot of new books/comic collections/movies/etc for the library.

Usually a higher price tag will be down to the amount of restoration needed. They've come out before in trade paperback but for the oversized page, they probably need a bit of work.
Plus, they know we happily pay for Byrne reprints. Which is why it's crazy that DC doesn't get their act together and do Man of Steel Omnibuses.

Libraries that accept donations usually just sell what they get, that's true, and those book sales are generally run by volunteer-led Friends of the Library groups.
They don't get added to the collection because the staff time necessary to go through them (evaluate it on condition, decide whether they want it in the collection, catalog it, mark it) doesn't make financial sense. |

Same here, Ed. I got the Dark Phoenix omni as a placeholder until they do another printing of the second Uncanny X-Men volume. I understand folks need to make a profit on stuff they sell, but the prices some of these OOP trades and hardcovers are listed for is just straight up gouging. I always wonder if they ever even sell at those prices because the listings never seem to go anywhere.
Stevie, thanks for the clarification. I thought that was the case, but was curious why they can't put those donations on the shelves, especially, as in the case of JB offering them, they are brand new books!

I lucked out and bought the two Uncanny X-Men Omnibuses but I’m waiting for reprints of the two original X-Men volumes, as well as the second JB FF Omnibus.
