I'm likely going to splurge and buy this, provided it's not too costly!

I just checked Amazon and saw the retail there is about $170. For 15 movies on blu-ray that's not too bad. Also, the booklets contain artwork from many comics artists.

My problem: the only two Showa era Godzilla films I really love are GOJIRA (1954) and MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA (1964). All the others are at best disappointing, and some you just can't enjoy unless you're under 11 years old.

The biggest disappointment is GHIDORAH, THE THREE HEADED MONSTER (1964). I love Ghidorah -- brilliant design, great "roar," and I'm always amazed at all the work that was put in to make the Ghidorah suit function at all.

But outside of the scenes where Ghidorah is wreaking havoc in Japan all by himself, everything in that movie is a mess. The plot...it's barely a plot. The big monster fight looks goofy as all hell. And Godzilla and Rodan became "anthromorphized" -- really, a conversation with Mothra? There's a common kaiju language? (A prelude to GODZILLA VS. GIGAN, now that I think about it.)

This turned Godzilla, Rodan, etc. into comedy characters, and then later into characters purely for kids.

I can appreciate the giant insect puppet work in SON OF GODZILLA, the big monster battle in DESTROY ALL MONSTERS, the concept (and mostly the execution) of Hedorah (my first Godzilla movie was GODZILLA VS. THE SMOG MONSTER)...

...but all of that is surrounded by stuff that's silly or stupid or boring or all three.

So I'll be saving my money.
