"Doug, characters re-designed by John Romita, perhaps? His Spidey is different in many respects from Ditko's. Nighthawk was originally designed by John Buscema, awkwardly re-designed by Len Wein, and re-designed again by Romita for the Defenders. Nova was a fan character created by Marv Wolfman, re-designed by Romita to appear simpler and more stream-lined."
...
Brian, you're on the right track when you say "re-designed", narrow it down.

Brian Hague -
Supergirl, Power Girl, Agatha Harkness, Sabrina Spellman, & Alexandra Cabot.
Is it that they were all blond at one time?

Doug C. - The simplest answer (at least to me) should be obvious. So I'm looking for my answer, which I don't think is entirely simple.

Brad, that may be true, but that was not what I was looking for. (Alexandra was blonde? How come no one tells me these things? Are you talking about the one from Law and Order: SVU?)
My guess for the simplest element binding those characters Eric listed together was that they all wore a cape. My guess for second simplest was that they were all members of the JSA. My third was that they all have blank, monochrome eyes in one incarnation or another.
As for some more complicated level of involvement, that I have no idea about as of yet.
Doug, I'm not certain what needs narrowing down. Did I need to say the word "costume?" Acknowledge that Sal Buscema followed him up on illustrating the characters almost immediately? State more clearly that all three had existing costume designs by others that he re-worked into their current forms? Note that all three previous designs came from writers? Sorry. I'm not sure what you're looking for.

Brian H., I guess that simplicity isn't so simple any more. :) Yes, the simple answer I referenced is that they're all members of the JSA. And that is not the entire solution.
CLUE 2: The answer does NOT include the Atom, Black Canary, Dr. Mid-nite, Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Johnny Thunder, Mr. Terrific (with an asterisk), Johnny Thunder, Wildcat (with an asterisk), and Wonder Woman.

Didn't mean to mislead you Brian. I was purposely being vague for the first hint. You were on the right track as far as re-design but it's not creator based, narrow down to an aspect of the costume. And not necessarily a conscious re-design.

Interesting... Nothing suggests itself immediately, but I'll continue to give it some thought.
Did anyone want to take a swing at the questions I still have open?
Superman, Wonder Woman, Thor & Loki, Sub-Mariner & Namora, Archie, Peter Parker, and Emma Peel.
Alan Scott, Bart Simpson, Woodstock, Kermit the Frog, & Link from Legend of Zelda.
Supergirl, Power Girl, Agatha Harkness, Sabrina Spellman, & Alexandra Cabot.
