I met him a couple of times - my friends' band was produced by him back in 1995, and I got to hang at the studio during some tracking, and lending my Moog, which at that point in the late 90's were hard to find.  Then he and Paulina hosted a release party for the album at their townhouse.  I wouldn't say "he was approachable," but he was obviously a very gracious and generous man - and clearly one of the great pop songwriters of the last forty years, which is saying something.

We have a classic rock/pop station I listen to here that was playing Drive, their one hit he doesn't sing on, a lot. A few days before he died, they switched to playing Magic instead. 

The Cars were one of the many bands from my youth that I miss. I say "were" because without him...meh.
