It's just been announced that Kevin Feige is now, in addition to film and television, in charge of Marvel's print comics. Quesada has been essentially demoted and made an EVP with Feige taking his old title. This should be interesting.

Have I understood this right:Although Feige has taken Quesada’s old title, he has elevated it so that Dan Buckley, who Quesada used to report to, now reports to Feige.
That’s an interesting way to do things.
I’m hoping all ages storytelling will return to Marvel Comics

My two immediate concerns here are 1. That Feige doesn't actually know anything about publishing print comics and 2. That he has too much on his hands and the print comics will be an afterthought.

I think the most interesting part of this is the shrinking role of Ike Perlmutter, since (as I believe was rumored), there was enough friction between Perlmutter and Feige that Bob Iger basically split Marvel Films and Marvel TV apart.

As far as Quesada, I haven't read any Marvel titles regularly under his watch, but I have to say I've been impressed with the broadening of the art styles on display. Some very appealing artists they have on hand, these days.

Have liked almost nothing put out by Marvel in the last decade-plus, so this is hopefully good news for me.

I would think this will lead to a larger push for the comics to reflect the movie characters, not the other way around.

My prediction is that the comics will just be left to their own devices, and Feige will keep his focus on the movie and television parts.

Wow, this is important news.
I don't think Feige would risk his name and prestige if he didn't have a plan for the comics. And "knowing" the man, I'll bet that plan's pretty solid.
This could be very good.

Does the article mention print comics?
This: "Deadline hears that Feige is adding the title of Chief Creative Officer, Marvel, to his title. What that means for the brand is that all the company’s key creative executives across film and TV will now report to him, sources said." sounds to me like it excludes comics.

Feige is overseeing publishing creative/editorial. That’s comics.
QUOTE:
Buckley will have a dual reporting structure going forward, Deadline hears. He will continue to oversee publishing creative/editorial and in that capacity he will now report to Feige. Buckley is also responsible for publishing operations, sales, creative services, games, licensing and events. There, he will report to Perlmutter. It is expected that Joe Quesada will remain a creative lead for of Marvel Entertainment, reporting to Buckley. It is expected that all the creative execs in publishing will report to Buckley. |
