It’s about return on investment. If Disney can spend 100 million on running Marvel Comics for a year and make a small profit or use the same money to make another Marvel movie that year and make a billion, it’s a no brained for Disney.
It makes infinitely more sense for Disney to shut down comics publishing and license out the characters for pure profit with no overhead. And they’ll still own the characters so that they can mine the stories all they want.
