What about Galactus vs. Darkseid? Would Galactus laugh off the Omega beams?

Brian, haven't you read JB's The Hunger?  Great book.

What happens to Galactus if he eats Asgard? Is that the cosmic equivalent of a Red Bull?

Not sure, but I figure Bifrost would taste like Skittles.

From what I recall reading somewhere long ago, Kirby always intended that the "Old Gods" who died out were the Norse Gods. It was Ragnarok that finally happened and destroyed them and their world, and out of that was born the New Gods. He was just never able to make that explicit, due to the fact that DC insisted on him setting his stories within the mainstream DCU (but all brief flashbacks Kirby drew of the last days of the Old Gods they tended to look rather "Norse-like").

And IIRC didn't John Byrne allude to this connection between the Norse Gods and the New Gods when he had Thor resurrected in his Fourth World series?

So viewing it from that perspective, Darkseid would beat Odin, as the newer Gods would be more powerful than the older Gods, similar to how Zeus and the Olympians proved more powerful than Cronus and The Titans, as someone else brought up.

And if we accept that Darkseid beast Odin, then so does Galactus, since we know that a fully-powered Galactus could also beat Darkseid, according to John Byrne's The Hunger.

In my worldview, Odin is the big fish in the small pond (i.e., Earth), while Galactus is the hurricane that ravages everything in its path. If the two of them came into direct conflict, Odin would lose.

That said, I don't think Odin is dumb enough to fight Galactus head on. He's much smarter than that. And Galactus can be manipulated or thwarted without it coming down to duking it out.

My money would be on Odin to pull out a win, even though Galactus is vastly more powerful.

As everyone has said Galactus would win his bout. (Though I do think Odin, with proper preparation, could plan for a successful defence of Asgard from an attack by Galactus.)

Odin vrs Darkseid is trickier. Odin did once have a crackingly good extended fight with Thanos. In which Thanos pretty much got his ass handed to him towards the end of it. So I think it would all depend on how you think Thanos compares with his inspiration there. Personally I give a slight edge to Odin. But it would be a damn good fight. Darkseid certainly would not go down easily, that's for sure.

We've seen Superman go toe-to-toe with Darkseid. I can't see him doing that with Odin.

Darkseid beat Thanos (while calling him a "pale imitation of me") in the DC vs Marvel miniseries.

And Superman has some experience defeating an Asguardian God (see JLA/Avengers #3).

So I'm sticking with my predictions. Darkseid Is.

Darkseid beats Odin without even working up a sweat.

Galactus beats everybody, but since his role is NOT to beat everybody, since that would make for short, boring stories, people tend to forget he really is the top of the pyramid.

Fans so often fail to think in isolation--each story is its own unique entity--and it's not helped by constant references to previous appearances. (After Galactus is defeated by the Impossible Man, where is there to go?)
