This is probably old news, but it was the first time I saw it. It looks like the setting is the JB era FF? This makes me wonder how many other projects are just sitting in a drawer somewhere, unpublished for whatever reason.

That would make sense! How were projects pitched back then, JB?

Well, there was that Stern/Miller DOCTOR STRANGE that didn’t happen even after there were published house ads. That was kind of a biggie. (As I recall Frank was lured away to do a James Bond series, which also didn’t happen.)

I should rephrase - was it normal to start work on a project before it was approved?

Doesn't BWS have a handful of unfinished projects? I recall seeing a page or two from a Superman GN that was announced but never came to be. There was also a "Monster" book that was based on a rejected Hulk story, IIRC.

Looks really nice. A lot like his Thing story in Marvel Fanfare. Too bad he didn't finish it.

I thought I read this was getting finished and published or am I thinking of his Hulk story?

Never even heard of this but I like the art. As Oliver said, it made me think of that Marvel Fanfare Thing tale which was a bit different but quite well drawn. Seems unlikely he'd agree to having it posted online if it was slated to be published any time soon.

| I should rephrase - was it normal to start work on a project before it was approved?*************** Don't know how "normal" it was. Neal Adams famously started pencilling an X-Men graphic novel based on a verbal contract with an editor. When said editor could not convince higher ups to deliver on what he promised Neal, Neal shelved the project. The pencilled pages are on the internet.

I just recently learned about the Wein/Wrightson SWAMP THING graphic novel that was shelved when Wrightson decided he couldn't and/or didn't want to do it after already roughing* out dozens of pages. Shame.
*his "roughs" look pretty complete too!

I thought the GN he was working on was what ended up being GOD LOVES, MAN KILLS.
