@Michael:

That an answer is predictable doesn’t make it untrue, and your comparison between Harry marrying Meghan and the U.S electing Obama doesn’t work.

Arguments over unconscious bias are unwinnable – how can it be proven to exist? If I accuse you of criticising my comments because you hate Scottish people, how can you disprove it?

And speculation over how a white woman might have been treated differently are similarly unprovable – although I would say that I don’t know how many people in the U.K thought of Meghan as being of mixed-race heritage up until the wedding, and, even then, I can’t think of anyone who cared much either way. The royal wedding was generally seen as a triumph of race-relations, and many republicans in the U.K (I should add that these aren’t the same as Republicans in the U.S!) begrudgingly conceded that their position that the royal family was inherently a backwards-looking institution that needed to be gotten ridden of had been effectively countered.

And as I understand it, Meghan’s estrangement with her father and half-sister preceded their attempts to sell their story to the tabloids, rather than resulting from it.

Buzzfeed article from yesterday showing how the press
covers Kate and Meghan in similar situations. Kate got
more favorable coverage.

With the latest announcement, I'm actually good with
Harry and Meghan. They've given back the titles, they're
paying for the cottage and they won't get public funds
for doing royal duties. I think that's fair enough.

When Meghan came into the mix I was immediately reminded of a DOCTOR WHO episode set in a distant future version of England. The Queen was called Liz 10 and was Black. Ms Markle’s arrival, I realized, actually made that possible, if not probable.

Not any more!

One was less 'royal' than the other from the start, not that he should be blamed, but this may've been inevitable. The whole set-up is an anachronism you would think anyway; if I have some Richard III blood in me, does that make me better than anyone else, more fit to rule, or even wave?

I just finished watching the Netflix series.

I have a question about the lawsuit they won against the
publisher of the Mail for printing the letter Meghan sent
to her Dad. The newspaper acknowledged losing the lawsuit
and that they have to pay the legal costs. Did Harry and
Meghan get monetary damages?

Some threads should not be resurrected.  This is surely one of them.
