Emotions aside, I think it would beneficial/helpful to
know when, but if it couldn't be avoided, I do not think
I would want to know how.

Perhaps I should pose a variant on this:

Would you want to know when, or how?

No.  Not only no to when, but no to how.

Ultimately, I would want to know when, so I could
prepare better, but I would not want to know how,
unless I could work to change it, so no - not how.

This is a trap question, guys. Note the phrasing. You have to pick one.

I’d take when.

I'd choose "how". If it's in a car accident, I'll never get in a car again because I'd still wrongly hope to cheat death.

I seem to remember a thread where JB predicted the date of his death...
Anyone else recall this?

I sure don't!!

I have a memory of a thread where the interpretation of one of JB's answers was that he may be planning assisted suicide at some point in the future.

This would be at least 5 to 10 years ago.
Not finding anything from Google though. But the memory is there in my mind.

edit: Found it:

Yes, but enough for people who are wont to do such things to jump to the conclusions they wish to jump to - as evidenced by Bleeding Cool's take on it, which may have influenced my interpretation of what was written.

So long ago now I'm not sure the chronology, but I do remember thinking you were at least mulling things over.

having said all that, I remember as a kid, seeing how my parents' bodies were not ageing well (possibly due to the at least 40 fags a day they were smoking, but also due to other factors such as bone degeneration), thinking that 50 would be an age to die so that I didn't have to experience being old.

I'm 50 now and I do wonder what the hell I was thinking. but my body and my parents bodies are in no way comparable.

I've asked myself a variant of this question - minus the 'how' - for years...I've gone back and forth on that.

Adding 'how' puts me firmly in the 'no' category though. If it turns out to be in an 'unpleasant' fashion, that would just ruin me.
