Sad news on this Monday that Max Von Sydow has passed away, aged 90.

As a horror fan, I remember him first for "The Exorcist" but he was around so long and did so many things. A great actor, a great movie villain and a long life.

Godspeed.

Great actor, surely. So many rich performances. What a
legacy!

Damn. A sad day indeed. He brought an infinite amount of class to everything he appeared in. He defined Ming for me, and I dearly loved him in Needful Things. (Not to mention, in all this time I never realised he was the voice of Vigo.)

A true original, and class act through and through. R.I.P. Sir...

The best compliment I can think of is that he elevated the material, in any film he made an appearance in.  Films like THE EXORCIST, FLASH GORDON and CONAN THE BARBARIAN wouldn't be the same without his presence.

One of the all-time greats.  His role in THE SEVENTH SEAL guarantees his immortality in film.

Wonderful actor that was a welcome name to see in the credits of any film.

I first 'met' him as Ming in Flash Gordon when I was five years old, but I didn't really pay attention to who he was till I was in my early teens.

Obviously memorable as Father Merrin -- has anyone so successfully played much older than their years before or since? You really can't tell it is a spry man playing the old Merrin; it's a totally convincing portrayal.

I also liked how this quality, respected actor would frequently turn up in genre films. Minority Report, Dune, The Force Awakens, Conan, Dreamscape, among many others.

He had a good run.

Like I've said so many times lately, who replaces him for those roles yet to be written?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
That's definitely in my top 5, but for me it has to be Ming The Merciless in FLASH GORDON.

He was also one of the bright spots in the Sylvester Stallone JUDGE DREDD movie, as Judge Fargo. (Go watch the DREDD movie starring Karl Urban for Judge Dredd done right.)

My confession: I've never seen any of the EXORCIST films.

Saw the first one a couple of years ago. Far too literal. I was bored.
