I think the post we are all waiting for is the one from Andy Mokler.

*******

You’ll have to tell me what he said. I ignored him.

"It may have been asked, but... WHY TOILET PAPER???"

**

I wondered this myself, then it was explained to me.
The fear of being suddenly quarantined and being without
such...essentials.

Apart from the expected empty shelves for paper towels, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer...

...My store was completely out of russet potatoes, yellow onions, and bananas. Never seen that before.

Everything else was in fairly good supply.

Hmm...potatoes (yellow-ish), yellow onions, bananas. As
JB has said, religions have been built on less.

Nothing spectacular. I paraphrase, but along the lines of the media are fear mongering and it's nothing compared to the flu.

The outbreak does reveal a worrying contrarian spirit at large with regard to our elected authorities.

Government: Please reduce the spread by social distancing and not gathering in large groups, but don't panic buy.

People: F*ck off! We'll do what we want, this is nothing more than the flu. Oh, and we're going to panic buy.

Where I live (Long Island) there are clear shortages of the things you hear about would expect....hand sanitizer (out since February), bottled alcohol, bleach, TP, potatoes.

If you are living in an area that is not impacted - please be prepared.  This has literally happened in less than 2 weeks.  It starts very very quickly.

Scarier is the prospect of supply shortages, particularly medicine.

Please stay safe and if you are in a heavily impacted area (Italy) our prayers are with you.

Or everyone is trying to recreate Leonard Nimoy's favorite recipe, "Potatoes La Jolla Chez Jay", from the old Star Trek Cooking Manual...

Today, Trump said, “I take no responsibility at all” on the coronavirus testing disaster and “I know nothing about it” on disbanding the WH pandemic team. Ironically, if Trump accepted responsibility, he might be forgiven for his incompetence.... but his refusal makes him criminally negligent.

And for those wanting to compare it to the flu, here's what the experts who actually work in the field of disease control think: LINK

Really the key thing (and it's not bog roll) is the strain on the health system if the number of serious cases explode at once (which seems likely, unfortunately).

If you just work through the numbers using the available data and conservative assumptions to extrapolate, the final numbers you arrive at are scary.
