Also?  Most cogent op-ed I've read about this pandemic (and I've read a ton).  Been saying it for more than a month...

I’M 36 AND I TESTED POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS. MY SO-CALLED “MODERATE” CASE IS BRUTAL.

Brrr. Don't wish that on anyone.

I personally know two people who have been confirmed.  One was 14+ days and the other is at 19+ days.  The 19+days friend is still going through shit we wouldn't ever want to deal with after nearly THREE WEEKS.

Fuck me.  That's awful.

Here's my take on this.
People have continued to say this is just like flu.

Each year, do we know people who have been hospitalised by
flu? I certainly don't. I know people that say 'I've had
flu' but not been hospitalised.

We know of people who have had this - and they don't say
it's nice.

It's not flu

A friend’s daughter was taken to the hospital yesterday. They had to drain her lungs.

That the closest this thing has struck, so far.

I'm just trying to do everything I can to help my late 70s aged parents' odds of not getting this. It's been pretty stressful at times, especially early on where they insisted on keeping doing things like normal despite many warnings... like going to a casino outside town (so glad when someone closed it for the duration, may it stay closed as long as possible).

From "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by John Donne:

"...Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee."

I think that sums it up pretty well.

My friend Andre lost his father to this disease. He was a healthy man, almost 70 years old, but active and without any other condition. It took around 15 days from the first symptons to his passing. He lived in Rio de Janeiro.
Another guy who used to work with me in the same company was hospitalized for two weeks in induced coma and breathing with equipment support (ventilators). He lives in São Paulo, like me.
Situation in Brazil is not the best, but it seems that the situatoin is not as bad as NYC, considering we started having cases around the same time. Apparently community transmission took a little longer to begin here.
I am growing concerned because many people are not willing to take precautions, last night a street party in the suburbs had hundreds of teenagers hanging out as if nothing is happening. Crazy times...

And your president doesn’t seem to take the crisis very seriously...to pu it lightly.

Hi Brian Miller, about the Hydroxicloroquin, there is a health insurance company in São Paulo testing a protocol using this medication in the early days of the symptons of COVID19 with high success rate. This drug is known for more than 70 years and could be purchased in any drugstore in Brazil. Obviously now it has vanished and people that takes it are having a hard time getting it.
It is early to say how this is going to progress, but I have been hearing that for many people it is working.
It doesn't seem to be so dangerous as some people are saying, I personally know one lady that uses this medication because of Lúpus disease.
Brazil's president have been pushing for this medication as well, and it is really unfortunate that this disease has become so politicized.

Philippe, I think the whole thing became a show of politicians playing for profit more than anything.
The economic disaster is certain, so Bolsonaro just decided to play a blame game with anyone defening social distance, so he poses as the guy who wants the quarentine efforts teminated, so people can come back to work (as if this is even possible).
It is a nasty political play, but there are many people in serious economic dispair right now that are taking his side.
In the future he expects to blame everyone for the crisis and hopes that people vote for him again in 2022.
It is despicable and I hope he loses.

COVID is now the leading cause of death in the USA.  Heart disease is usually the leading cause, killing about 1,800 Americans per day.  Governments are afraid to share all their modelling of the pandemic with the public, but privately funded modellers believe it will sometime in July that society in the west takes its first baby steps back to normalcy.  India and South America will continue to have major problems into the fall.  There isn't even enough data from Africa to guess yet.
