As we begin to emerge into the new normal, comics are being shipped again to comic book stores.  I plan on visiting my shop this week to pick up my comics that have been on file since the end of February.  As for this week's comics, here's what will be added to my file:
  • JOKER HARLEY CRIMINAL SANITY #4 - I've become quite a fan of the DC Black Label line.  I still need to read the previous 3 issues.
  • TERRIFICS #27  - Still one of the better team up books being created today
  • RED SONJA VAMPIRELLA BETTY VERONICA #10 - I'm not sure if this is a re-issue or not - I do know that this is the next one in the series. Betty and Veronica do the weirdest team ups.
  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #43 - I'll likely reread the previous two issues to get up to speed on where this one is going.
  • BACK ISSUE #120 - The focus on this issue is on the Heroes of Tomorrow, including the reinvention of Mon-el as Valor (which I tried, but never got into) and the Legion 5 years later saga (which I did read).  Issue 119 which is on Guardians of the Galaxy is also in the file that I'll be picking up.
What are you getting?

I haven't been buying anything new, but I finally found a good deal on JB's
FANTASTIC FOUR OMNIBUS VOL 2. I can't believe I thought I didn't need this
book. I didn't get the last trade collection, so it is great to see that in the large
format. "The Last Galactus Story" and the extras are amazing.

New Comics:
Justice League #45- I've figured out that I'm a Robert Venditti fan.

I also got a few issues that were ordered for me:

Once and Future #3
The Visitor #3

I was a late-comer to both books and the store didn't have these issues in stock when I bought them.

Back Issues:

Atari Force #11-20- I've been intrigued by this book for years and I was a fan of the mini-comics that came with Atari games when I was a kid.

Ninjak #13-16

Magazines:
Back Issue #120- Featuring the Legion of Superheroes!

James: "Wait, The Last Galactus Story is in Omnibus 2? Bugger. I have volume

****

That's what I did - I had the first one because I wanted the issues prior to when
JB started his solo run with #232. Some of those issues were in Visionaries
TPB #0, but not all. And of course the solo material looks stunning in this
format - they even fixed the amazing "Legacy" (Annual #17), which looked
atrocious in the TPB. The format has nice large pages, although these editions
each clock in at 1000 pages - a real nut-buster.

I didn't think I needed Volume 2, but I am so glad I got it. I didn't have
Visionaries TPB #8, and of course had never even read "The Last Galactus
Story." The bonus covers and art are wonderful.

Do you have #1-10? That series is "beginning, middle and end" rather than a more episodic come and go as you please kind of deal. Not to mention that the first half has a lot more JLGL art.

Anyway, my list:

Exorsisters #6
Mercy #2
Amazing Spider-Man #43
Avengers #33

Yeah I bought #1-10 last week. I have the trade with the old mini-comics coming as well. Should I read that first?

Honestly, I'm not sure what I'd recommend.

If you didn't know, the 20 issue series occurs ~20-25 years later than the mini-comics. The five characters from the minis are all in there, but (with one exception) as supporting cast members while a new generation does the Atari Force-ing.

Anything you need from the mini-comics gets retold in the series, to the point where, when I did the mini-comics followed by the series, it felt more than a little repetitive when I got to that part.

So on the one hand, chronologically the mini-comics come first and you get to know the original crew as people before they became "mommies and daddies." OTOH, the regular sized series at times felt like it was written with the assumption that you probably hadn't read the mini-comics.

So basically, I say flip for it. :-)

For what it's worth, the next time I dig them out, I'd probably do the 20 issues and then the minis as a "prequel."

DC: Aquaman #59; DC Our Fighting Forces 100 Page Giant #1 (I had to stop into Walmart in Shelton a few weeks ago and OFF #1 is there).
For us Connecticut residents: Terrificon 2020 is cancelled: "Hello TERRIFICON Fans,

I am writing you this message with much sadness and reluctance, but after a great deal of consideration I’ve decided to postpone the 2020 TERRIFICON event at Mohegan Sun and move it to July 30 thru August 1, 2021.

Since the COVID19 outbreak, I’ve been working with Mohegan Sun to devise ways to guarantee that this year’s TERRIFICON would be nothing but top notch. From safety precautions like temperature checks, masks, hand sanitizer to a convention floor plan that incorporated social distancing, it was above and beyond all the required safety measures.

However, even with all of these precautions in place, the ever changing timeline for a massive public event outlined in the Governor’s four phased reopening plan for Connecticut, makes guaranteeing the ability to deliver TERRIFICON in August uncertain. To avoid waiting in anticipation only to risk disappointing fans, guests and vendors, the decision was made to cancel this year’s show.

When TERRIFICON returns on July 30 thru August 1, 2021, most, if not all, of this year’s already announced guest have expressed their intent to return and meet fans at next year’s show!"

Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #1 - Let's see what they do with Volume 2...

Joker/Harley #4 - I've also liked most of the DC Black Label books, this one has been interesting.
