"A lot of people are saying"
"Oh, I heard apparently blah blah blah"
Trump-speak. Playing his game. His game is hate.
I have given some examples of what I have done over time, not enough but real. Some people are removing graffiti and sweeping up glass and broken things, others are treating broken bodies or spirits as they are able to. Some black men took to a knee... that's not 'we' but theirs. I can continue stand up for them to be respected and heard, I cannot add to rage against or on behalf of though as I don't think they did what they did to provoke it in anyone. Sometimes you have to give respect to get respect and I definitely respect people who have shown dignity and strength in the face of oppression and ridicule.

Watched and listened to the memorial service. The family taking about who was taken from them. The cries for justice from people who have seen first hand the sick inequality of it's application. The difference between those wanting peace and those just wanting quiet so they can continue to ignore. Center stage the body of Mr. Floyd. Not all short messages are simplistic. Black Lives Matter. They should matter to all of us. The promise of America should matter to all of us. Build, repair, act on faith, act on good faith. These are the things that can last. Some people act on a promise to make it real even though they have lots of reason to doubt. Some endure bullying and ridicule and silence hoping somehow it is seen. Only (a) God can have a perfect will, but people can't know if there is one objectively. Some decide to act based on there being one anyway, some plant seeds for a future they might not see, some don't believe finding it entirely beside the point, some believe ferociously because maybe they have to in order to go forward at all.
The central outrage is what happened to a fellow human in a shared street that should not happen, keeping the focus on that is what is necessary. Black lives matter. So many lives overcoming and contributing so much to the world we owe knowing that to, beyond any what about isms or look over there distractions or some jumped-up loud coward poncing about like he's strong. Strong is turning the other cheek. That isn't letting anybody off a hook, it is what is necessary. they say we are all sinners, they imagine an ultimate book keeping perhaps, but someone, usually the mothers, are quietly putting the necessary food on the table and hoping the fathers will still do their part where the knee isn't on their neck.
Years ago I stood up for human beings over the flag of a 'lost cause' kept flying at their expense. I addressed zealots in the names of people they see as sinful by their nature in the cause of equality for gays and lesbians everywhere though I do not number among them myself. White people can stand up for non-white people by spreading awareness of their experiences to others of our number; not by name-calling back, not by insinuations or threats, but in good faith attempts at conversation even when met with hostility and so many who "don't want to know". Truth is a weapon, but one supposed to set people free. I want to be a lover of truth and sometimes all we can have are questions.
Thanks as always for this space and time.

Ms. Jansen - Trump's not just about hate. He's also about A) non-culpability and B) POWER. He wants everyone bowing in deference. When he can't get everyone in agreement... then he unleashes his sword of hate.
Honestly, I'd be happier if he just shut up... because when he talks, he usually goes off script, and that's when the craziness comes out, just as you cited.

Learning today that George Floyd was rarely called just "George" - his family called him "Perry," and apparently he had quite a collection of other nicknames. For some reason little details like this bring his humanity into focus - a snapshot of a life cut short.
Protests continue, but the curfew in Los Angeles was lifted tonight. Progress.
I like to think the protestors were more tenacious than the looters, but I think police and property owners stepped up their security. In the aftermath, I am concerned about store owners using their own guns as the shutdown continues.

Seriously, this is like the third or fourth video I’ve seen of the police shoving an old person to the ground I’ve seen in as many days. The police tried to claim that he tripped and fell. Which I guess true: he tripped and fell from being shoved
Warning: Blood

Michael,
I just watched that video.
To all of you police supporters, I'm sure that 75 year old white man was a serious threat to the officers.
I see a lot of "good cops" around.
And the police lied.
Welcome to a black man's world.

Andy,
Either she hasn't been pulled over by the cops or her parents never gave her the "Talk!"
It'll come.

Nah, Candace Owens is just a huckster who has found her niche. Even people on the Right call her out for being an opportunist.

LOL, way to prove her right. She isn't towing the line so she's an Uncle Tom.
Sad.
