Truly seems to be a thankless job for those good ones out there.

I'm friends with a few state troopers in my area. One of the ones I've known through them was shot in the face answering a domestic call where a man was holding his wife hostage. His backup shot the guy in the leg and arrested him, the wife was unharmed. The trooper who was shot in the face has spent the last almost two decades trying to regain his cognitive abilities. His life changed in a moment. We need to do away with a culture that allows an abuse of power but we also can't neuter the people who are actually doing their jobs properly.

All horrible marketing of slogans aside, defunding the police isn't meant as a fiscally punitive act the police. It is actually meant to redirect funds that usually go to the militarizing of the police to social services instead.
It means the police would be alleviated of the tasks they are asked to do that normally would not be in their purview, for which they have no training or sensitivity: more social services oriented activities and some traffic activity (easily automated in most cases).
I'm actually a little surprised and disappointed that the usually well informed contributors to this forum hadn't bothered to read beyond the sloganeering on this one.

Dont bother Ron. People read what they want to read. It has been mentioned many times yet people still think it means closing all the police stations and let mob rule prevail.

Oh, welcome to the Forum!
