Is chess RACIST? Only if you're looking very hard to be offended.
What's next? Racist polar bears and panthers? Toilet paper and tar?
And how do we classify penguins and zebras?
Some people work so hard to miss the point that they wouldn't know it if it jabbed them in the ass.

The hand-wringing, teeth gnashing and panic of the right shows up yet again, just like it did five years ago with their seemingly endless moralizing and crusading in fear of the "slippery slope" of gay marriage.

First chess set I owned, as a child, the pieces were ivory (color) and deep red. The board itself was an eight by eight grid without color. As usual, we begin with a good idea, equity, equality, and see it stretched to meaningless extremes.

"Extreme" in all things has been the style of the times for quite awhile now. :^(

Yeah logically, Mount Rushmore has to go down.
A people can remember their History without celebrating all of it. Or a people can decide to to erase and forget their History. Which one is the worst idea ?

The worst idea is applying modern standards to the Past. Tearing down Confederate monuments is appropriate. These were traitors fighting in defense of an evil “cause” that was seen to be such at the time. Attacking the Founding Fathers because they didn’t behave as we like to think we would have misses the much broader point. History is messy. This is why education is so important.

This craze has arrived to France as well. With antiracist leaders asking for the removal of the statues of major political figures from the past who also were responsible for slavery and the slave trade in France. The name Colbert is everywhere in France, streets, avenues, schools, subway stations...And some want all these places to be de-named and re-named. I think there are more important crusades to do right now. How about trying to eradicate modern slavery which is still present in many partts of the world today manufacturing all theses things we cherish so much ?

Ah, but Philippe - if you eradicate slavery right now, it's not history. We can't correct history until it occurs - so current events are out. Maybe in a hundred years or so... [/sarcasm off]

Exactly. It’s ridiculous that right-wing media freaks out over a name that ultimately doesn’t matter to anyone but notaries. |

Look at the definition of moral panic and ask yourself who's freaking out. "Right-wing media" isn't asking for a ballot initiative to be the first state to change its name, they're just pointing out how ridiculous it is. Andrew Sullivan has more on this. If the owner of this site were still working for Marvel or DC and his post mocking Defund the Police got out, he'd have to make a groveling public apology or get fired (and probably still get fired).

The people complaining about Confederate monuments, flags, etc going away are in one of two camps: 1. Outright racists or 2. Claiming "Southern heritage", who either don't realize or don't care what those represent.
Members pf The Sons of the Confederacy showed their stupidity last week by having a plane fly over a NASCAR race towing a huge Confederate flag with "Defund NASCAR". Its too bad the plane's engine worked. (As in was able to take off.)

The Left has gone mad with power. They dominate the media, the streets. Anyone who disagrees gets fired and "cancelled". Sent to a gulag without walls. And they expect us to give them the government as well in November? Oh well, whatever.
