What's the way out of all this ?•• As I've said before, we'll never really be "out of all this" until it doesn't matter. Until "sticks and stones..." becomes the mantra. Basically, until people of all races, creeds, colors, religions, etc come to understand that taking offense grants power to the enemy.

similar to Chef Boyardee. I don’t have a problem with Chef Boyaredee. Hopefully, he wasn’t portrayed negatively at some point
******
If I remember correctly, the actual Chef Boiardi appeared in TV commercials.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen the slang wop I had to look it up.

Yeah along with "daygo" I used to get that when I was a kid. I'm sure it would've been doubly worse if I had my mom's last name (Perruzzi).

Closest I’ve ever been to the receiving end of a racial slur was when someone in high school referred to me as “the only albino negro in captivity.” The people he said it to just seemed confused.

Chef Boyardee (Boiardi) was actual Italian chef who looked like the brand depiction and was behind the original recipes for the canned products. It's not like he was a "Life with Luigi" type of creation.
As for the pancake issue...I personally think pancakes are a foul excuse for food and should be banned altogether. The branding of the AJ product is long past a needed change.

The only thing I would do about Chef Boyardee would be to change the spelling back to the original. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a person of non-American ethnicity as the basis for your company's branding, it just depends on the history and presentation. Using an Italian businessman who founded the company? Good. Using a servile black "mascot" with no such connection? Bad.
That's not too hard to figure out in most cases.
